Brimfield draws people in with its slow pace of life and lower taxes than its neighbor, Kent. “My wife Amanda calls areas like this ‘sub-rural,’” says Realtor Tom Hall, one half of Hall Team Ohio with Coldwell Banker Schmidt Realty. “It’s not the country, but it’s not really suburban. You get the best of both worlds.” Residents have access to small-town amenities like family restaurants and community parks, as well as big box stores along the interstate. There are several churches in the area. “It’s a really nice area,” Hall says. “There’s a sense of community.”

There is a mix of local restaurants and major retailers
Many of the restaurants within the township's limits are locally owned. Brimfield Family Restaurant got its start in the 1960s as a carry-out place called Lettus. The establishment still serves the fried chicken and pizza that made it popular. Joe’s Barbecue is a food truck that sells smoked barbecue until it runs out. “I’ve gotten food from his truck before, and it was good,” Hall says. At the shopping center along Interstate 76, chain restaurants like Applebee’s and Panda Express are near major retailers like Kohl’s, Walmart and Lowe’s. There is also a Meijer in the area. During the summer, people can get fresh produce from the market at Dussel Farm, which also has a feed store. During the fall, the farm transforms for the Pumpkin Festival, which features a corn maze, pumpkin patch and treats like kettle corn and candy apples.

The housing market consists of older ranch styles and new developments
Oak and pine trees dot Brimfield's grassy lawns, which get more spread out as you move further away from the center of town. While some properties date back to the late 19th century, most homes were built after 1950. Many of these mid-20th-century houses are Colonial Revivals and ranch styles within Brimfield Township limits; the surrounding areas primarily have new traditional homes on large lots of at least half an acre. Older homes typically cost $160,000 to $300,000, while newer ones can cost $300,000 to $580,000. The area also has new construction, including townhouses, along Highway 43. “Those are good for some of the grad students that come in and want to buy instead of rent,” Hall says. “It’s more entry-level houses.”

Outdoor recreation includes Mogadore Reservoir and community parks
Residents have plenty of opportunities to get outside, including kayaking, boating and fishing at the Mogadore Reservoir. “It’s a big draw,” Hall says. “Our friends actually live in a development where they can walk down to the reservoir.” Popular catches include largemouth bass and bluegill. Multi-use trails surround the water. Cranberry Creek Community Park is one of several parks scattered across the area. It has a dog park, a sledding hill and walking trails that go through wildflowers and forests. Golfers can play up to 27 holes at Sunny Hill Golf Course, which has three public nine-hole courses. Programming at the Brimfield branch of the Portage County District Library includes storytime, game nights and painting sessions.
