A working-class, northeastern Bronx neighborhood
Homebuyers with a more modest budget seeking something quieter and more removed from the city bustle are often attracted to neighborhoods like Edenwald in the Bronx. Situated near Wakefield to the west and Eastchester and Co-Op City to the east, this blue-collar enclave has a centralized park and more accessible price points compared to other New York City neighborhoods. Edenwald is one of those rare New York City neighborhoods where homebuyers with a median income can find a single-family home for just under $600,000. Plus, residents still have commutability to Midtown Manhattan in roughly an hour via the 5 train. "The houses are nice up there," says William Beltran, a licensed real estate agent with Douglas Elliman. "It's tranquil,” he adds. The streets here are sloped and wide, offering unimpeded views of the eastern sky, and sidewalks are plentiful, if at times narrow.

Seton Falls Park occupies 35 acres in the center of Edenwald. This hilly, forested park is bordered by rows of humble, yet sturdy prewar brick rowhouses, small businesses and schools. The forested grounds of this centralized green space reflect the seasons, allowing nature to mark time in a city dominated by manmade structures. Aside from Seton Falls Park, which also offers playgrounds, dog runs, splash pads and plenty of hiking trails, the Northeast Bronx YMCA is a convenient and family-friendly neighborhood attraction for residents. YMCA members can partake in numerous group classes, swim laps in the pool, hit the weights or de-stress in the sauna. Comprehensive youth sports programs are offered, as well. Residents looking for outdoor recreation may also appreciate being less than a mile from the 3,000 acres of wildlife sanctuary, various recreational areas and the beaches of Pelham Bay Park.

We'll i live in the project. I do feel safe because it's across the street from a police precinct. But most of the people there are very stagnant. Some have been living there all their lives on public assistance. I want to make myself better. Focus on my education and get my family out.
