Moderately affordable multi-family homes and co-ops with a close-knit community
Kingsbridge offers a mix of housing styles, from detached single-family homes to two- or three-family homes and co-ops. According to Padernacht, a studio or one-bedroom co-op can start at $160,000, while a three-bedroom could climb up to around $600,000. Single-family homes, on the other hand, typically range from $500,000 to $1 million. Potential buyers are drawn not just to the affordability but also because “people are invested in their community, both financially and socially, which gives the neighborhood a distinctly close-knit feeling.”A public golf course at Van Cortlandt Park
Spanning 1,146 acres, Van Cortlandt Park is the third-largest green space in the city. The sprawling landscape is home to the nation’s first public golf course, which opened in 1895. Nowadays, it is also the grounds of the nine-hole Mosholu Golf Course. Beyond golf, the park has several miles of running paths, hiking trails and facilities for basketball, football, baseball, cricket, tennis, rugby, lacrosse and track. People enjoy fishing at the park’s 18-acre freshwater oasis, Van Cortlandt Lake.Nearby renowned private schools, including Riverdale Country School
Kingsbridge is part of Public School District 10, but local parents love how many schools there are nearby to choose from. Although they’re just outside the neighborhood, nationally renowned private schools like Horace Mann School and Riverdale Country School are major draws for families. Students who attend public schools attend institutions like In-Tech Academy, a public middle and high school that has achieved an A-rating from Niche for its rigorous academics. For those just beginning their education, grades pre-K through 5 can attend P.S. 207, with a C rating and raving reviews from parents on Niche.Home to the longest step stairs in the city, West 230th Street
Kingsbridge is famous for its step street, connecting it to next-door neighborhoods via 160 steep steps. Bridging Marble Hill and Kingsbridge with Spuyten Duyvil and Riverdale at the top of the slope, West 230th Street is the longest steep street in all five boroughs, which comprises three sets of stairs spanning 295 feet in length and 38 feet in height.Multiple stops along the 1 train, including 231 Street Station
This northwestern Bronx neighborhood is 4 miles from the edge of Westchester and about 6 miles from Upper Manhattan. The MTA 1 train runs through the neighborhood, making stops at the northern and southernmost points, 231 Street Station and 238 Street Station, respectively. For those commuting to and from Connecticut, the Metro-North train stops at the nearby Marble Hill station along the Hudson Line.Big-box stores and local favorite bars, including The Punch Bowl
For groceries, residents can shop at Broadway Plaza’s major grocery stores like ALDI and Food Universe Marketplace and specialty stores like Garden Gourmet Market. The shopping mall is also home to major retailers like T.J. Maxx and Best Buy. Just up the road, Riverdale Crossing has a BJ’s and Petco. For nightlife, there’s always Kingsbridge Social Club, a neighborhood hideaway serving wood-fried pizza and craft cocktails. And, one cannot forget The Punch Bowl, best described as “a century-old watering hole” by Eater, a pre-prohibition bar that has remained under the radar with its famously kitsch decor, including signed jerseys from both the Mets and the Yankees, stuffed dear and boar heads and mirrored advertisements from various beers. Also not to be missed is 98-year-old local resident Fred Schuster’s famous cheesecake bakery, S&S Cheesecake, which has been instituting his secret recipe since he bought the bakery in 1960.
