Wooded hiking trails on the Mississippi in Riverwood
The Mississippi River courses through Riverwood, a neighborhood in Brooklyn Center. The first-ring suburb is about 10 miles north of Minneapolis, and Riverwood residents are less than a mile from the Fridley suburb on the eastern side of the river. Islands of Peace County Park, a collection of wooded islands, occupies roughly half the neighborhood, and some properties include river frontage. “The big draw is that you have access to the parks and trails along the Mississippi,” says Kristi Healy, a Realtor with Edina Realty who has nine years of experience selling in the area. “In Minneapolis, we don’t really take advantage of the river.”
Newer construction occupies southern sections of Riverwood, complementing the established ranch and split-level homes that define this riverside Brooklyn Center neighborhood's character.
Riverwood residents live less than a mile from Fridley across the Mississippi River, enjoying suburban tranquility while maintaining convenient access to neighboring communities and amenities.

Forested hiking trails at Islands of Peace County Park
A wood-planked footbridge leads to Chase Island in Islands of Peace County Park. Paved walking and biking trails weave through maple-basswood forests and along the riverbank. Anglers will find plenty of shoreline access, and benches and picnic tables provide resting spots. Chase is the only island in the park that visitors can reach on foot; the other two, Durham and Gil Hodges, are only accessible by boat. Evergreen Park features playing fields, sports courts, skating rinks and picnic areas less than a mile away.

Ranch-style and riverside homes with shaded yards
Riverwood’s residential streets are tucked between Minnesota State Highway 252 and the Mississippi River, which flows right past some residents’ backyards. Most ranch-style and split-level homes date to the 1960s and ’70s, but newer construction occupies the southern section of the neighborhood. Streets are wide enough to allow two cars to pass, but only a few have sidewalks. Lots measure about a quarter of an acre, with paved driveways and shaded yards. When homes enter the market, they tend to sell within 21 days, less than half the national average. Split-level and ranch-style homes usually sell for $300,000 to $375,000. “It’s more affordable than anything closer to the Twin Cities,” Healy says. “My folks live in that area, and they bought there because they could get a decent house for a good price.” Anthony Rodriguez, who has four years of experience selling in the area, points out that riverside properties can fetch prices from $500,000 to $700,000. “North of I-694, you’re going to see a big price jump along that riverside corridor,” says the Realtor with Keller Williams Realty.
Riverwood properties sell quickly, averaging just 21 days on the market compared to national averages, reflecting strong demand for this riverside Brooklyn Center community.
Riverside properties in Riverwood command premium prices from $500,000 to $700,000, where the Mississippi River flows directly past some residents' backyards in this desirable location.

Metro Transit and MVTA buses travel throughout the Twin Cities
Highway 252 offers a starting point for the 10-mile commute to Central Minneapolis and the 20-mile drive to Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. Metro Transit buses stop along the highway to provide access to the Twin Cities region. For local commutes, including the 3-mile ride to Mercy Hospital-Unity Campus in Fridley, Minnesota Valley Transit Authority (MVTA) buses are a convenient option. Residents also have access to Interstate 694, which leads to the heart of Brooklyn Center, about 3 miles away. Currently, the Northstar commuter rail stops in Fridley on a 40-mile route that connects downtown Minneapolis to Big Lake. However, state and local officials are talking about ending the rail service due to low ridership and high operating and maintenance costs.
Topgolf, Pappy’s and Cub Foods are all within a short drive
Residents have to venture outside the neighborhood to find retail and restaurant options. Across Highway 252, Topgolf Brooklyn Center pulls double duty as a dining and entertainment spot, with hitting bays, a rooftop terrace, fire pits and a sports bar with over 200 TVs. Pappy’s Chicago Eatery sources most of its ingredients from the Windy City, serving up specialties like Italian beef sandwiches and the iconic Maxwell Street Polish. The closest grocery option is Cub Foods in the Fridley Market shopping center, less than a mile away on I-694. The Home Depot and Royal Home Center, a home goods store, are across the street from the mall.
Pappy's is a roadside fast food joint whipping up straightforward hot dogs, gyros, wings, fish & sandwiches.
TopGolf Brooklyn Center offers year-round entertainment with climate-controlled hitting bays, where guests enjoy interactive golf games, food, and drinks in a fun social atmosphere perfect for all skill levels.

Embracing the Big Chill at Evergreen Park
Evergreen Park occasionally hosts seasonal events. The Big Chill, a series of family-friendly winter activities fueled by bonfires, hot cocoa and s’mores, has been a Brooklyn Center tradition for almost 30 years.
Protection against flooding and storm damage
Because of the neighborhood’s riverside location, homes are at risk of flooding, and tornado and hail risks are high throughout the Twin Cities region. Homeowners insurance can help protect against losses from flood and storm damage. Residents who live close to the interstate are also subject to traffic noise.
