Near the Ohio River, Buckner has subdivisions and highly rated schools
Buckner is a census-designated place in North Central Kentucky, just south of the Ohio River. “[It’s] very family-centric. Buckner draws people who want the neighborhood feel — kids on bikes, community activities and schools within a short drive,” says Josh Jarboe, the principal broker-owner of Re/Max Empire, who has about 10 years of experience. “[It has a] mix of established subdivisions and newer developments. [Home] values are strong because of Oldham County’s nationally recognized school system.”
A few older homes and many post-2000 New Traditionals
Buckner includes ranch-style homes and raised ranches built between 1970 and 1990. These older homes and others from that period have price ranges of about $270,000 to $660,000. “Generally, [there are] not a lot of old homes; most were built in the last 20 years,” says Realtor Kyle McPeck with Coldwell Banker McMahan, who has about 4 years of experience. “They tend to be two-story, bigger family homes.” Many of these post-2000 homes have New Traditional architecture and are in subdivisions. They vary from brick-covered with Craftsman influence to Cape Cod-inspired. Prices range from about $280,000 to $830,000.

The high school offers courses in career pathways, including accounting and early childhood education.
Outdoor recreation at Wendell Moore Park, aquatic centers and golf
Oldham County Family YMCA offers indoor recreation and has an aquatic center. John W. Black Community Center also has an aquatic center, which, unlike the YMCA’s, is outdoors. The community center is in Wendell Moore Park, where over 2 miles of paved path winds around its tennis and pickleball courts, an 18-hole disc golf course and baseball fields. A playground and a fishing lake with a pier are also in the park. Oldham County Country Club is a semi-private 18-hole golf course nearby. On Colonel Drive, Oldham Soccer Park has 12 game fields, where it hosts the LouCity/Racing Oldham competitive youth and adult soccer teams.
Fairgrounds and the Sauerbeck Family Drive In movie theater
Oldham County Fairgrounds is between Buckner and La Grange on KY-146. The fair, which is held for five days in mid-July, features carnival rides, motorsports shows and live music. About 2 miles away, Sauerbeck Family Drive In screens movies under the night sky from April through November.
Industrial parks and driving on Interstate 71 to nearby cities

Railroad tracks run parallel to the highway and cross KY-393, where traffic may occur as freight trains travel through the area. Interstate 71 runs through Buckner, connecting it to La Grange, about 5 miles northeast, and Louisville, around 20 miles southwest. The Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport is nearly a 25-mile drive.
