Tamarack Point attracts residents looking for comfort and convenience

Tamarack Point is an active suburb of northern Carlsbad that offers well-maintained homes close to day-to-day comforts. “It’s a Brady Bunch sort of neighborhood close to downtown,” says Kat Phoenix, a longtime resident who runs her business, KittyKat Electrolysis, out of the community. “Everyone likes it here, and very few people leave after they move in.” Located along State Route 78, residents are within reach of the area’s hub for big-box shopping. Beyond the short trips to commercial developments, the beaches of the city’s oceanfront, community parks, and the wildlife of Calavera Nature Preserve are all within 3 miles of home. “You don’t need to leave the area because everything is right there,” Phoenix says.

Hilly streets lined with midcentury and ranch-style homes

Single-family homes make up the bulk of Tamarack Point. A dotting of palm trees sprout from front yards, which sit close to the neighborhood’s hilly residential roads and neat sidewalks. “People are always out walking their dogs, and kids ride around on their e-bikes,” Phoenix says. Midcentury modern and ranch-style homes fill the community, most in established subdivisions with homeowners associations. Spanish influences, like stucco exteriors and clay-tile roofs, appear throughout, and fenced-in backyards have enough space for in-ground pools. These single-family homes typically sell between $1 million and $2 million. Condo and townhouse complexes are available on the community’s north and south sides, with units selling between $675,000 and $1 million, depending on size and amenities.

L’Heureux Memorial Dog Park. Calavera Nature Preserve is less than 2 miles east, offering miles of hiking trails. “A lot of people go hiking and biking there,” Phoenix says. “There’s a lot of wildlife, the lake and Mount Calavera, which is an extinct volcano that erupted millions of years ago.” The coastline is a short trip west, with Carlsbad State and Tamarack Surf beaches offering miles of shoreline for relaxing and swimming. El Camino Country Club, on the other side of State Route 78, offers a private 18-hole course, tennis courts and a pool.
