Entertainment at Piedmont Social House
Ayrsley business district is home to the neighborhood’s food and bar scene. Many establishments mix eating with entertainment, including Piedmont Social House, which Lamar describes as a “bowling alley-slash-pool hall.” Piedmont patrons can also play shuffleboard, cornhole, darts and ping pong, all while sharing appetizers and listening to live music. In her Ayrsley days, Lamar frequented Harry’s Grille & Tavern, an American gastropub. “It’s a place to get steak, salmon and some good cocktails,” she says, adding that she’d often order the chicken wings. The Ayrsley Grand Cinemas offers half-price tickets on Tuesdays. For retail and grocery shopping, Whitehall Commons is north of the community and Steele Creek Crossing is west, featuring major shops like Publix and Walmart.Townhouses and single-family homes
The community’s buying options comprise mainly townhouses and single-family homes. “They’ve built a lot of new homes, townhouses and apartment complexes in the area,” says Karla Aguilar, a real estate agent at KJ Realty LLC, whose office is in Ayrsley. “It’s gotten really big in the last five years. They’re even doing an electric car charging station in the neighborhood.” Bungalows, ranch-style and two-story transitional homes sell for $210,000 to $385,000. These homes are around 900 to 1,700 square feet. Townhouses built between the early and late 2000s range in price from $216,000 to $460,000, with about 1,300 to 3,000 square feet.Recreation at Steele Creek YMCA and fun at Ramblewood Park
Ayrsley is home to the Steele Creek YMCA, where residents can participate in aquatics, yoga, group fitness classes and kid programs like dance and gymnastics. Nearby Ramblewood Park offers nearly a dozen soccer fields, a playground and up-close views of the Sugar Creek waterway. Thomas McAllister Winget Park has a baseball and softball complex built in 2020. It also features a challenging disc golf course, a new playground, a shelter and a walking trail that loops around the soccer field.Carnival rides at Carowinds
Carowinds amusement park is about a 10-minute drive. Here, tens of millions of annual visitors meet their favorite Peanuts characters, attend holiday celebrations like WinterFest and get their adrenaline pumping on coasters like the Dale Earnhardt-inspired Intimidator. “It used to be only a few rides,” Aguilar says. “Now they have a lot of new carnival rides and a water park, and they’re open pretty much year-round now. Students living on the neighborhood's eastern side attend South Academy of International Languages. This public magnet school serves Kindergarten through Grade 5 and scores a B-plus on Niche. Southwest Middle earns a C-plus. Palisades High opened in 2022, reflecting its non-rated status on Niche score. On the western side, students go to Starmount Academy of Excellence, which has a C-minus grade. Carmel Middle earns a B-plus, while South Mecklenburg High receives an A-minus. The high school offers The World Language Academy, where students can learn Spanish, Chinese and American Sign Language, among other languages.Traveling on Interstate 485 and 77
Located at the southern corner of Interstate 485 and Tryon Street is The northernmost properties in the neighborhood are about a five-minute walk from Ayrsley Town Boulevard, the main commercial corridor. Other residents have about a 20-minute walk and might prefer driving. With immediate I-485 access, Lamar says Ayrsley residents can typically reach Uptown Charlotte in about 15 minutes via the nearby Interstate 77. As Charlotte’s main beltway, I-485 also offers a path to outer-city landmarks. The Charlotte Premium Outlets are about 4 miles, or 10 minutes, away without traffic. The drive to Charlotte Douglas International Airport is about 10 miles, which can take 20 to 30 minutes, depending on traffic.Crime
