Echo Hills is where suburban ease comes with quick access to Uptown
Echo Hills is a small suburban neighborhood next to Charlotte ’s iconic coliseum, offering a mix of updated older homes that appeal to first-time buyers and sleek modern properties for those with larger budgets. Surrounded by major roads, the neighborhood is in a good spot to reach destinations around the Queen City, whether you drive or use public transit. Uptown is less than 10 minutes away, and schools, shops, restaurants and parks are even closer, though the trade-off for this convenience is a noisier atmosphere.
Many of the older homes in Echo Hill are slowly being replaced by larger more modern homes.

A mix of renovated ranches, cottages and modern homes
Echo Hills’ single-family homes line wide, tree-shaded streets branching off busy main roads, such as East Independence Boulevard. You’ll mostly find renovated midcentury ranch-style homes on lots of over a quarter of an acre, with a few Cape Cods and small cottages sprinkled in. There is also a cluster of luxury modern homes built between the 2010s and today, along with brand-new townhouses, on the neighborhood’s east side. “It’s a really small neighborhood,” says Adam Sellars, the owner of Queen City Sellars Team at Keller Williams Realty Ballantyne Area. “It has large lots, updated or expanded, remodeled homes, and it’s pretty centrally located to Plaza Midwood.”
Many of the newer homes in Echo Hills are modern in style.
You can also find smaller cottage style homes.

Options for first-time buyers and high-end shoppers
The neighborhood’s median sale price is around $490,000, slightly above Charlotte’s median and on par with that of neighboring Oakhurst. “Echo Hills would be more appealing to a first-time homebuyer,” Sellars says. Here’s how home prices breakdown by type:
Most detached homes cost between the upper $300,000s and the lower $500,000s.
High-end modern homes start in the lower $900,000s and can exceed $1.3 million.
Townhouses range from the lower $400,000s to the lower $500,000s.

Highway access makes it easy to reach Uptown and other job centers
If you move to Echo Hills, you’ll have a straightforward commute to Uptown, about 5 miles away, via U.S. Route 74. And while the drive can take less than 10 minutes, you’ll often have to contend with rush hour traffic. University City Research Park, another employment hub, is around 16 miles or roughly 20 minutes away in Mallard Creek-Withrow Downs. For a car-free commute, you can catch a ride on a CATS bus along Monroe Road. “There’s discussion of putting a light rail, the Silver Line, around that area, but that’s still in the planning stages,” says Thomas White, Realtor with Re/Max Results. “It’s also a pretty walkable area, with nearby coffee shops and breweries.”
