Silverwood

New subdivisions made for first-time homeowners
Homes in Silverwood tend to be on the newer side, most being built after 2000. And development is only continuing. “It’s got townhouses and a lot of starter-type homes for first time homebuyers,” Lachowski says, characterizing the neighborhood as a great place for renters to move out to when they’re ready to own some property for themselves. Streets branch off larger thoroughfares, carving a quiet, residential niche out of what used to be farmland. Sidewalks are especially common, inviting residents to meet their neighbors or take pets for walks. Colonial Revival, New Traditional, split level and ranch-style homes tend to sell for between $300,000 and $425,000, though homes with at least 2,000 square feet of space can reach around $500,000. When it comes to townhouses, buyers are looking at a range of between $225,000 to $325,000.Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools
Students can attend Reedy Creek Elementary and Northridge Middle, which are within a 10-minute drive of most homes, before wrapping up at Rocky River High. All three schools receive C-plus ratings from Niche. Students at Rocky River High can participate in the school’s Army, Honors and Leadership JROTC programs.Silverwood is mostly car-dependent
Interstate 485 runs past the eastern side of the neighborhood. By car, residents can expect to reach Uptown Charlotte in about 25 minutes. Apart from 46x Harrisburg Road Express, which only operates during rush hour, Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) buses usually don’t go as far east as Silverwood.Eating out and shopping in Silverwood
Mr. Charles Chicken and Fish is residents’ go-to spot for hearty soul food, but gizzards and grits isn’t all they’re known for. The establishment features live DJs on weekends, or residents can perform for themselves during the Friday night karaoke. A family-owned restaurant with a rustic, barn-like exterior, Big Al’s Pub and Grubberia has a punny menu, serving up dishes like “Buff-Al-O Fingers” and “It-Al-Ian Salads.” Whatever American dish locals are carving, Big Al’s is bound to please. Shopping options like Target, Lowe’s and Walmart can be found along Albemarle Road. For residents on the northeast corner of the neighborhood, the Food Lion by Interstate 485 might be the most accessible option. More shopping centers such as Farm Pond can be found further down Albemarle Road.Exercising the body and brain
There’s a lot of ways for residents to enjoy the great outdoors in Silverwood, like spending an afternoon on the fairways at the public, 18-hole Charles T. Myers Gold Course. At Reedy Creek Park, visitors can explore 10 miles of trails, cast a line from the fishing pier and host parties and gatherings at the various picnic shelters. Kids will get a kick out of the park’s interactive nature center and treehouse-themed playground. Locals can keep their mind in shape, too, at The Box Escape Experience, where visitors can try to solve puzzles in order to escape one of four themed rooms.
