Wildwood

A mix of ranch-style homes and new construction
Wildwood’s two-lane country roads flow over the area’s gentle hills. Single-family homes here either rest on spacious ½ acre lots or sit side-by-side with little space in between. The neighborhood’s oldest homes are two-bedroom 1920s cottages with small covered front porches and midcentury brick ranch-style homes shaded by mature trees. Wildwood’s pastoral feel has slowly shifted over the last 30 years as subdivisions pop up and expand. Two-story Colonial Revivals, transitional designs and Craftsman-inspired builds are becoming the dominant home styles, sitting on wide suburban streets lined with sidewalks. These properties feature attached garages and open floor plans. Most homes cost between $300,000 and $450,000, but some small cottages can list under $250,000. Townhouses are also available from $130,000 for a two-bedroom unit built in the 1970s to $340,000 for a newly built three-bedroom. Potential buyers should note that a thick line of trees buffers the whirr of vehicles driving through the neighborhood on I-485, and residents can often hear planes from Charlotte Douglass International passing overhead. The U.S. National Whitewater Center offers outdoor adventure
"You shouldn't miss out on the U.S. National Whitewater Center," Hall says of the expansive facility. During Charlotte's warm summer months, crowds pour in to explore the center’s array of outdoor adventures, including rock climbing, mountain biking, hiking and rafting. The venue hosts live music evenings as part of its River Jam series and highlights outdoor sports with three days of competition during Tuck Fest each April. The upper pond is turned into an ice skating rink in the winter. Robert L. Smith Park is one of the closest public green spaces, featuring a playground surrounded by soccer fields, walking trails and a disc golf course in the woods along Paw Creek. Future upgrades include a 1 ½ mile greenway and lighted pickleball courts. Pine Island Country Club sits north of the neighborhood, offering golfers a private 18-hole course.Coming soon: The River District
Food Lion anchors Moores Chapel Village in the heart of Wildwood. This shopping center also features CVS, Family Dollar and Jin Jin, a small Chinese takeout restaurant. CaroMont Family Medicine is a new addition that provides primary and urgent care. “This side of town is the most undeveloped,” says Angie Castro, a Realtor and broker in charge at Monarch Group Realty. “The River District is going in, and it will blow up this area and give people some options to eat because that’s the thing about this area; there is only one restaurant.” Castro says The River District, which Crescent Communities is developing south of Wildwood in Dixie-Berryhill, has been in the works for many years. “It’s probably Charlotte’s last development of this size. It’s going to have restaurants, apartment complexes and different neighborhoods,” Castro says. For now, residents drive into Charlotte's Center City for diverse eateries, entertainment and nightlife. A Walmart Supercenter is about 5 miles north across from Riverbend Village, which features various national chain restaurants and a few local eateries, such as Nana Morrison’s Soul Food.Inspiring cosmetologists study at West Mecklenburg High
Whitewater Academy serves pre-kindergarten through fifth-grade students. Earning a C-plus rating from Niche, the academy offers a variety of extracurriculars, such as Art Club and Girls on the Run. Budding performers take center stage for the school’s annual spring musical. Whitewater Middle sits next door. The STEM magnet school receives a C-plus and provides free breakfast and lunch to every student. West Mecklenburg High gets a C rating and is known for its cosmetology program hosted in a full cosmetology lab. The B-rated East Voyager Academy of Charlotte, North Carolina's first Mandarin Immersion charter school, is one of several public charter schools near the neighborhood. The unrated Paw Creek Christian Academy is the closest private option.Charlotte Douglas International Airport is less than 6 miles away
Wildwood is about 10 miles from bustling Uptown and less than 6 miles from Charlotte Douglas International Airport, the sixth busiest airport in the world. There aren't any bus lines in the neighborhood, so the community is car-dependent. Interstate 485 has several on ramps in the neighborhood. It connects to Interstate 85 to reach destinations around the metro. Moores Chapel Road is one of a few bike-friendly streets.
