City sights and neighborly vibes
When Mike Feehley thinks of Wilmore, memories of Sunday afternoon tailgates pop into his head. Friends came over for snacks and beers before kickoff at Bank of America Stadium, and about an hour before the game, everyone walked down the street to see the NFL's Carolina Panthers play. “There’s no better-located neighborhood in Charlotte,” says Feehley, a longtime Charlottean and broker at Ivester Jackson Christie’s International Real Estate. “It provides walkability to anything and everything you want.” Tucked within vibrant South End and close to bustling Uptown, Wilmore is a residential enclave where quaint bungalows are just a few streets over from modern townhouses and happening urban hubs. “We love the proximity to all the excitement of the city, but also love that we are tucked away enough that we still have privacy, tranquility and that quintessential neighborhood feel,” says Rebekah Taff, Realtor with Helen Adams Realty and Wilmore Neighborhood Association board member.
The eastern section of Wilmore is known for it's large multifamily communities.

Feel the pulse of the city
With its idyllic single-family homes and abundance of hip restaurants and bars, Wilmore is situated squarely in Charlotte’s trendy South End. Cocktail bars, breweries, fitness centers and luxury apartment buildings line Camden Road, which runs alongside the Charlotte Rail Trail. A walk along this urban trail leads directly past craft beer hotspots such as Sycamore Brewing and popular restaurants like Leroy Fox, which specializes in Southern fried chicken and Sunday brunch. Pasta & Provisions is a neighborhood gem where patrons can indulge in homemade pasta or pick up frozen to-go meals to feed the whole family. The neighborhood also has several boutique retail stores, many of which are tucked into Atherton Mill, a former textile mill turned high-end shopping destination. This chic shopping center houses name-brand clothiers next to big-box stores such as Publix and Lowe’s, making for easy errand runs close to home.

Homes in a designated historic district
While most commercial development in Wilmore is modern, a 1930s construction boom created many of the houses lining the neighborhood’s wide, curvy streets. “Anytime you’re going to drive through the neighborhood on a Saturday or Sunday morning, you’ll see families walking with kids, pushing strollers, walking with dogs,” Feehley says. Charlotte designated Wilmore as a historic district in 2005, which Feehley says was a blessing and a curse for homeowners. Although many houses have gone through interior remodeling, exterior changes must go through historical approval. “There’s so much history to the neighborhood,” says Feehley. “The homes have so much character.” Taff agrees: “Because we are located within the historic district, we all have front porches, and we very much make the most of them.” Charming bungalows are signature to the area, though many two-story remodels and newly-built homes have a distinct farmhouse character. Depending on condition, older homes can list from $350,000 to $700,000, while newly built and heavily renovated houses can be priced from $750,000 to $1.3 million. Townhouses typically sell for between $500,000 and $800,000.
New custom homes are also an option in the Wilmore and Brookhill neighborhoods.

Urban trails and scenic greenways
Revolution Park spans a little over 15 acres and offers a fitness area and indoor recreation center, along with a playground, baseball fields and the Dr. Charles L. Sifford Golf Course, which grants 9 holes on Bermuda Grass. When out for a walk, residents can take in the urban sights along the Charlotte Rail Trail. Or they can hop on the Irwin Creek Greenway to explore wooded walking paths near daffodil gardens and rock formations. Small pocket parks are accessible from either end of the neighborhood and are utilized for community get-togethers. “Starting late summer into fall, we host movie nights at the Wilmore Centennial Park,” Taff says, noting that a variety of events are publicized on the neighborhood association’s Instagram. “We have a neighborhood social committee who hosts Wilmore Wednesdays at Pasta & Provisions, as well as neighborhood park parties at Abbott Park.” Abbott Park’s playground is a popular spot for families, while the athletic field and basketball courts are often occupied by casual pickup games. For indoor recreation, the climbing gym Inner Peaks South End hosts youth and adult teams, camps and classes for all skill levels.
