Planned developments encircle the area's namesake mall

Home to the largest shopping mall in Tennessee, Hamilton Place is a collection of planned developments on the outskirts of Chattanooga’s metropolitan area. About 13 miles east of downtown, the neighborhood offers modern, single-family homes close to shopping centers and public parks. "One of the big pros of Hamilton Place is how convenient it is,” says Evan Barron, a Realtor with eXp Realty. “It’s close to everything you'll need for daily life in Chattanooga."

Houses come in a few different styles

The success of Hamilton Place Mall, which opened in 1987, helped drive residential and further commercial development of the area. Subdivisions, built at the tail end of the 20th century, offer contemporary house styles ranging from 1990s brick-sided ranch styles to 2010s neo-traditional two-stories. Construction continues in the 2020s, as new developments add to the neighborhood’s housing stock.Newer developments tend to have sidewalks, while older neighborhoods closer to Interstate 75 do not. Older homes between I-75 and Gun Barrel Road are mostly built in ranch styles and sell for between $325,000 to around $575,000, though some properties here can sell over $1 million. Homes farther east tend to be newer and sell for $460,000 to about $650,000, though a few examples rise higher than $1 million to close to $3 million.

Hamilton Place Mall is a huge draw for the area

After opening in the late 1980s, Hamilton Place Mall reigned as the biggest shopping complex in Tennessee for over a decade. In 2011, the mall got a multimillion-dollar overhaul. "The mall and its number of stores is why this area is so appealing to people,” Barron says. “Gun Barrel Road has every store you could need for day-to-day: Fresh Market, Target, Lowe's, you get the idea."With over 200 stores within the mall and over 30 restaurants nearby, there are plenty of retail options. One local favorite is Acropolis Grill, which recently celebrated its 30th anniversary at Hamilton Place. The Greek restaurant’s tagline, “Always Fresh, Always Family,” speaks to both its family-owned management and passion for authentic cuisine. Another popular spot is Mean Mug Coffeehouse, a locally-owned café with an in-house bakery that serves breakfast, lunch and a full espresso menu. There are several supermarkets in the area, including Trader Joe’s and Aldi.

Parks provide community gathering spaces

Outdoor fun is never far from Hamilton Place. "Heritage Park is one of the major three parks in the East Brainerd area, and it's got a great dog park, a ton of walking trails and a few playgrounds for kids,” says Barron. “It's one of the nicer parks in the area.” Just minutes from the neighborhood is the extremely popular Camp Jordan Park. The park’s 275 acres feature a dozen baseball and soccer fields, an 18-hole disc golf course, sand volleyball courts and 2 miles of walking trails. There’s also an amphitheater used for live music and theater performances, climate-controlled to host events in every season. Aside from parks and amphitheaters, Hamilton Place has several indoor recreation facilities, including the Hamilton Skate Place and the Sky Zone Trampoline Park.
