Mountain Creek blends scenery, popular restaurants and highway access
Mountain Creek is a quiet community at the foot of Signal Mountain, offering a peaceful lifestyle surrounded by hills and forests. The neighborhood offers a wide range of housing options and a mix of scenic parks, from mountainside trails to disc golf courses. Locally owned restaurants contribute to the area's small-town feel, including roadside smokehouses and riverfront spots famous for catfish. While the neighborhood feels secluded, major highways are close by, offering convenient commutes to Chattanooga and beyond.
A mix of condos, townhouses and single-family homes
Mountain Creek's home styles and prices vary throughout the community. "There are some subdivisions there that are on the higher end pricewise. But then I've sold a couple of condos that are very affordable, which are great for first-time homeowners," says Cindi Arendale, a Realtor at Keller Williams Greater Chattanooga. The subdivisions often feature ranch-style and New Traditional homes on modest lots. If you head up the mountainside, you can find cabins and custom houses on wooded properties with scenic views of the area. Costs usually depend on the type of home.
Single-family houses typically cost between the mid-$200,000s and upper $700,000s.
Condos range from the lower $100,000s to the upper $100,000s.
Townhouses fall between the mid-$200,000s and lower $400,000s.
Public, magnet and private schools serve neighborhood students
Students in Mountain Creek can attend Hamilton County Schools, including the nearby Red Bank High School, which offers a Future Ready Institute that helps students prepare for careers in engineering and computer science. The district also offers magnet programs, and Tennessee school choice allows for out-of-district transfers. Baylor School is a private boarding and day school in the neighborhood on the banks of the Tennessee River. This institution is known for its highly rated academics and championship sports teams.
Where locals dine out and shop for groceries
Shops and restaurants in the area include a mix of locally owned spots and chain businesses. Some places you can visit include:
Shuford's Smokehouse for pulled pork, brisket and banana pudding
River Drifters for fried catfish by the water
Old Man Rivers Table & Tavern for upscale southern cuisine and cocktails
Food City for a weekly grocery run
Walmart for other household items
Mountain Creek offers parks, trails and river access
Mountain Creek has multiple parks, making it easy to get outside and enjoy the scenery. Walden's Ridge Park is a 200-acre natural area on the side of Signal Mountain featuring downhill mountain biking trails, hiking trails and bouldering areas. The nearby Stringers Ridge Park offers more space for biking and hiking, with a mix of steep sections and gentle hills. For something less adrenaline-inducing, Mountain Creek Road Park offers quiet walking paths beneath shady trees. Portland Park is popular for disc golf, and a nearby boat launch on Suck Creek Road offers access to the Tennessee River.
Easy commutes to Chattanooga and nearby employers
Despite the feeling of being tucked away in the mountains, you'll have easy commutes throughout Chattanooga. "A lot of people like that location, the quick drive to downtown for work and that sort of thing," Arendale says. "I've got a good friend that lives right in Mountain Creek and her husband loves that he has a very quick drive to work." The City Center is roughly 5 miles away via U.S. Route 27, and the drive typically takes about 10 minutes, a bit more during peak times. Not everyone has to leave the neighborhood for work, though, as some major employers, like schools and Erlanger North Hospital, are located nearby.
