West Price Hill recaptures former glory
West Price Hill is a Cincinnati neighborhood with a promising future that’s not immediately visible. On the surface, the community is a shadow of its former self. But there are signs it may be recapturing some of its glory days. “West Price Hill in the 1940s was the place. Doris grew up here,” says Austin Long, a Realtor with Keller Williams Advisors and a homeowner in the neighborhood, of mid-century singing and acting star Doris Day. “In its current state, it’s a pretty depressed area. But, things are happening. It’s kind of cool what’s happening here.” Specifically, the community has taken control of its own destiny. With help from non-profit organizations such as BLOC Ministries, which recently located a stable in the community to offer equine-assisted services for disadvantaged youths, is trying to reshape the neighborhoods future. “The first glimmer of hope popped up on East Price Hill, which is slowly moving to West Price Hill,” Long says. In the meantime, conditions remain right for investors who see income opportunities here.

I have lived here all of my life, for 17 years now. Everyone has their beliefs of the area based off of stereotypes saying that the area is unsafe and disgusting, that you'll get shot or stabbed just by going outside. This may be true for very minimal spots in the area, but that's honestly true for anywhere you go. People can be loud at night too, but I've grown up with that so it doesn't bother me too much, and I think that's mostly just where I'm located and it really is just 1-2 neighbors causing the loudness. I truly love this area, the community is very friendly and the vast majority of the people here are very welcoming and kind.

Other than the constant police sirens, ambulances, firetrucks, car crashes, and debates between my family and I on whether or not that sound was a gunshot or a firework, Price Hill is alright. I'd rather live here than other places within the city, and there's always a roof over my head and food on my table, so I don't think I should be allowed to complain.

The crime rates in our neighborhood are higher than others, but the people who live on the streets around us seem to look out for each other. I feel safe in my immediate neighborhood, but that doesn't mean i would feel safe a few streets away. There is a lot of police presence around my neighborhood, but I know that our community has a high crime rate, and not enough police.
