West Price Hill recaptures former glory

West Price Hill is a Cincinnati neighborhood with a promising future that’s not immediately visible. On the surface, the community is a shadow of its former self. But there are signs it may be recapturing some of its glory days. “West Price Hill in the 1940s was the place. Doris grew up here,” says Austin Long, a Realtor with Keller Williams Advisors and a homeowner in the neighborhood, of mid-century singing and acting star Doris Day. “In its current state, it’s a pretty depressed area. But, things are happening. It’s kind of cool what’s happening here.” Specifically, the community has taken control of its own destiny. With help from non-profit organizations such as BLOC Ministries, which recently located a stable in the community to offer equine-assisted services for disadvantaged youths, is trying to reshape the neighborhoods future. “The first glimmer of hope popped up on East Price Hill, which is slowly moving to West Price Hill,” Long says. In the meantime, conditions remain right for investors who see income opportunities here.

It also continues to remain affordable, with a median listing price of $150,000 and homes ranging from $72,500 to $275,000. “You’re not overpaying, cost-of-living wise, but you’re also going to be able to add equity. I think it’s appreciating more quickly than the other neighborhoods,” Long says.

I have lived here for most of my life so I am used to the neighborhoods, and I know what areas are dangerous and which are safe to go into. Just like any city in America there are good parts with hardworking people and low crime rates; and there are bad parts where there are rundown buildings, drugs, gangs, and violence.

The crime rates in our neighborhood are higher than others, but the people who live on the streets around us seem to look out for each other. I feel safe in my immediate neighborhood, but that doesn't mean i would feel safe a few streets away. There is a lot of police presence around my neighborhood, but I know that our community has a high crime rate, and not enough police.

Its not the best looking but it has a ton of cool landmarks and historical sights. Some of the best forests are here and i love the community which is very warm and friendly. Could use some intervention and restoration from the government. Funding should be pit in place for childrens education, resources, and saftey.
