Glenwood Estates has single-family homes near parks and dining

Set 22 miles west of Tampa, Glenwood Estates is a Clearwater suburb offering single-family homes near shopping, dining and parks. “I think it’s terrific,” says Jael Weber, a Realtor with Dalton Wade who has over six years of experience. “It’s family-oriented, close to one of the most beautiful beaches, which is Clearwater Beach, and they have great schools—there are a lot of perks.” Local restaurants and businesses are less than a mile away along Drew Street, and Clearwater Beach is about 5 miles away. “The sand is super white, and the water is just beautiful,” Weber says. Compared to St. Petersburg, Weber says homes here are typically larger and priced lower, though there are less entertainment options. “You have absolutely everything, but business diversity is not as big,” she says. “But you get a bigger home for the same amount of money.” Most homes here aren’t in a flood zone, but some, like those around Lake Hobart South, are more vulnerable. Flood insurance is recommended, but not required. “It’s a beautiful, established neighborhood that could be appealing for many people,” Weber says.

Single-family ranch-style homes with tree-dotted lawns

Set along sidewalk-lined streets, Glenwood Estates’ single-family homes are typically ranch-style from the mid- to late 20th century, some with waterfront views. “A lot of people in the neighborhood are homeowners, so they take care of their properties,” Weber says. “The grass is greener; the appearance of the homes is more appealing; these things make a difference.” Typical features include covered patios or porches and attached garages or carports, and front lawns are peppered with palm and oak trees. “The yards are big, the streets are wide and you don’t see many cars parked,” Weber says. Single-family home prices typically range from around $300,000 to $650,000, though a home with luxury features recently sold for around $900,000. The median price here is $400,000, compared to $475,000 in St. Petersburg.

Pinellas County Schools receive high marks from Niche

Local kids may start at the B-minus-rated Skycrest Elementary, before moving on to Dunedin Highland Middle and Clearwater High – both rated B. At the latter, teens may take dual-enrollment courses for college credit at St. Petersburg College and Pinellas Technical College. Students in kindergarten through Grade 12 may also attend the private Lakeside Christian School, not yet rated by Niche.

Getting around from Glenwood Estates

Less than a mile away, state Route 60 leads 22 miles east to Tampa. Locals typically drive to get around, but residential streets are sidewalk-lined and thoroughfares like Drew Street feature bike lanes and Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority bus stops. “There’s public transportation, but people really need to have their own vehicles,” Weber says. Clearwater Airpark is next to the neighborhood, and St. Pete – Clearwater International Airport is 9 miles away. Morton Plant Hospital is 3 miles away.

Lakes, parks and beaches

There are a handful of pocket parks and lakes around the neighborhood, including Little League fields, Lake Hobart South with private boat access and the modest Glenwood Park with a playing field for pick-up games and picnics. Less than a mile away, Crest Lake Park offers a splash pad, dog park and picnic tables with grills. The park’s a go-to spot for a family cookout or morning jog, and the lake’s popular for launching kayaks and bass fishing. Golfers can hit the links at The Landings, a public, 18-hole course with well-maintained, tree-lined greens. For a beach trip, Clearwater Beach is 5 miles away, but Weber says many locals prefer quieter areas. “Clearwater Beach is a big attraction for people, but beaches like Honeymoon Island Beach and Indian Rocks Beach aren’t as crowded and it’s a lot easier to hang out,” she says.

Shopping and dining along Drew Street

“Shopping and dining are pretty close,” Weber says. Drew Street is lined with restaurants, convenience stores and small businesses. For groceries, there are essentials at Verena Food Market, and Latino Supermarket offers a wider selection of specialty ingredients and fresh produce. Panaderia Mi Mexico is the spot for fresh bread and pastries. There are a handful of Mexican restaurants nearby too, including La Cabaña Del Tio with handhelds like tortas and street tacos, and Taqueria Viva Mexico with full-plate favorites like chicken enchiladas, huevos rancheros and beef chimichangas. For more shopping and dining, Weber recommends Countryside Mall, which is 6 miles with over 100 shops and restaurants, including retailers like Macy’s, JCPenney’s and Dillard’s.

Events at Clearwater Beach

Sunsets at Pier 60 is a festive tradition that caps off each day at Clearwater Beach. Musicians, street performers and artisans set up shop on the pier, and locals enjoy everything from magic tricks and face painting to funnel cakes and cotton candy as the sky shifts from blue to warm shades of red and orange. April’s Sugar Sand Festival is another highlight, where artists line the beach with sand sculptures and festivalgoers enjoy carnival rides, fireworks and more.
