Cleveland has the kind of small-town charm that Realtor and resident Anthony Steen with Tom Smith Land and Home says is “like a Hallmark movie.” This town of over 10,000 residents has cheerfully decorated boutiques and restaurants surrounding North Sharpe Street, busy with residents who know each other by name and gather to gossip at the local coffee shop. Cleveland is home to Delta State University, but it’s not a rowdy college town. “It’s a real family-oriented place that thrives off the surrounding farmland. With the school growing and nearby towns slowing down, so many more people are coming to Cleveland. They always say it’s like something out of a TV show,” Steen says.
Cleveland's historic downtown district is steeped in rich heritage and boasts an array of local eateries and boutiques.

Farmers drive Cleveland's economy
Agriculture is one of Cleveland’s main industries. “Farmers drive this city,” Steen says. “The town is surrounded by acres of farmland, and there are several agricultural stores that keep the farmers supplied. Then, that produce goes into our restaurants and brings people from all over who want to dine here.” Other significant industries include education, healthcare and manufacturing.

Affordable homes with plenty of acreage
Cleveland's median sale price is $167,000, nearly $300,000 lower than the national number. The city's housing inventory consists of smaller single-family homes built between the mid and late 20th century. Outside of town, there is farmland, gated communities with new construction and traditional homes on large acreages spacious enough for horses, gardens or entertainment spaces.
In Cleveland, off-street parking is available at most homes.

Boutiques, restaurants, celebrations and museums
Along Highway 278, there are various small businesses, restaurants, grocery stores and churches. The heart of the community is on North Sharpe Street, where Cleveland's original town center offers boutiques, coffee shops, pizza parlors, fine dining and bars inside historic buildings. “The food is always good here—we have some of the best restaurants around,” says Steen. “And the boutiques and shops do a killing here. We really have a little bit of everything.” Delta State University is the gathering spot for many community festivals, including Octoberfest, the Crosstie Arts Festival, Springfest and the annual Pig Pickin.' This town tradition is a massive party with a cooking competition, pep rally and a football game. The campus is also home to the GRAMMY Museum Mississippi, which hosts exhibits, films, lectures and music performances throughout the year. While the museum's location may seem unexpected, Mississippi has a deep history with music. Many musicians that greatly influenced American genres like blues, country, jazz and rock—like B.B. King, Elvis Presley and Sam Cooke, to name a few—were born in Mississippi.
