The epicenter of downtown Cleveland comes to life
Also known as "The Square," Public Square is the heartbeat of downtown Cleveland. This district is the hub for business and entertainment, offering everything from historic museums to fireworks displays. “Public Square has been Cleveland's central park since the city's founding,'' says Josh Jones Forbes, marketing and communications director at Cleveland Neighborhood Progress. "It’s the primary gathering place and transit hub for visitors and residents in the downtown neighborhood. With its splash pad, ice rink, and live music, Public Square remains an active space year-round, thanks to management by Downtown Cleveland, Inc."
Visitors can explore the Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument, enjoy an ice-skating rink in winter and dine at REBoL, an award-winning, all-day café. During warmer months, food trucks and live music events fill the streets. In addition to its entertainment attributes, Public Square is also a hub for transportation, with access to buses or The Rapid, a train system that consists of four lines combining heavy- and light-rail.
"It’s magical in the winter,” said Kristin Rogers, a Realtor with Howard Hanna.
Luxury condos tout dramatic views of Downtown, Lake Erie
High-rise condominiums and apartment buildings are prominent in this busy business district. The Residences at the Guardian, a new condo project, prices from $350,000 to $950,000. Older high-rise condominiums like The Pointe at Gateway and The Park Building, located a block from the Museum of Illusions and JACK Cleveland Casino, offer condominiums typically listed in the $150,000 to $300,000 range. “Downtown has grown from 12,000 in 2012 to over 21,000 residents in 2024,'' says Julia Matter, Director of Strategic Communications, Downtown Cleveland, Inc. "Five office towers around Public Square have been converted into residential apartments, and today we have over 1,200 units,”
Residences at 55 Apartments share building space with First National Bank and offer one-bedroom, two-bedroom suites and penthouses with views of Public Square, downtown Cleveland, the Cuyahoga River, and Lake Erie.

Instant access to Huntington Bank Field, Rocket Mortage FieldHouse, Progressive Field, The Mall
Huntington Bank Field, home of the Cleveland Browns; Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse, home of the Cleveland Cavaliers; and Progressive Field are all within a mile’s walking distance of this district. Every Sunday, the home game at Progressive Field is Kids Fun Day, during which children can run the bases. When professional athletes aren’t on the field or court, these venues transform into concert stages, hosting global acts such as Tyler, the Creator, AC/DC, and Janet Jackson.
There is also no shortage of well-kept green spaces, reminiscent of vast parks in Washington, D.C.. “The Malls, just a short walk from Public Square, offer additional green space and scenic views overlooking Lake Erie,” Matter says.

Celebrate the holiday season at Soliders’ and Sailors’ Monument, Cleveland Skating Rink
During the holiday season, the Cuyahoga County Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument, a Civil War commemorative statue, hosts “Patriotic Santa,” a free public event inspired by a "Harper’s Weekly" issue from 1863. Visitors often photograph the monument, which is open for tours. Nearby, the Cleveland Foundation Ice Skating Rink, an outdoor rink operated in the winter, is open to skaters of all ages, and skate rentals are available. “It’s a magical sight to walk through Public Square in the wintertime when the trees are decorated with lights,” says Rogers.
Walk to Tower City RTA Station
Residents are within walking distance of the Tower City RTA station, the central public transportation hub serving the Red, Green, and Blue light rail lines. The 1,000-foot RTA Walkway provides convenient access to Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse for Cleveland Cavaliers games. Business professionals and office workers enjoy easy commutes, often walking, biking, or public transportation. A $3.4 million repair project led the city of Cleveland to remove concrete traffic barriers, creating more space for pedestrians and cyclists in this busy district. Cleveland Hopkins International Airport is 11 miles away, and the nearest hospital, MetroHealth, is 3 miles away.
Ethnically diverse cuisines, historic shopping centers dominate district
Fahrenheit Restaurant offers a new take on Mediterranean and Asian-fusion cuisine, featuring dishes such as ahi poke nachos, a seafood tower, and an exclusive rooftop menu on the second floor. Goma serves upscale modern Asian cuisine, while Mabel's BBQ, blocks away, boasts a signature sauce made with Bertman’s Ballpark Mustard, the official mustard of Progressive Field, home of Major League Baseball's Cleveland Guardians. The underground comedy club at Pickwick & Frolic Restaurant pairs an upscale steak dinner with a live show.
Heinen’s Grocery Store, a supermarket housed in a historic bank building, is located about a mile outside the neighborhood. The landmark Arcade Mall, opened in 1890 as America’s first indoor shopping center, remains a popular backdrop for wedding photos. “As a Warehouse District resident, I walk through Public Square almost daily to grocery shop at Heinen’s, eat at Goma, or attend a baseball game at Progressive Field,” says Rogers.
