The small community of Liebelt sits in the heart of Clovis, New Mexico. The neighborhood is noted for its historic potential and its convenience, as it is bounded to the east by the town’s Main Street. “I do get investors that will purchase over there in order to build their portfolio for good rentals,” says Realtor Tammy Waters, a qualifying broker with Town and Country Real Estate. “You’re 5 to 7 minutes from anywhere in Clovis, since we’re just a small town.” Its walkability, centrality and affordable real estate all serve to make Liebelt a solid choice for experiencing all Clovis has to offer.
Historic ranch-style homes line Liebelt’s streets
Homes in Liebelt are clustered close together on the residential city streets, with styles reflecting the preferences of the early 1900s. “I would say 99 percent of homes there are over 50 years old, and they could be as much as 75,” Waters says. “Here, 90 percent of what our homes are is ranch-style houses. Every once in a while, you might hear someone call a little stucco house a bungalow.” These sit on small lots, set back from the sidewalks by green yards and occasionally shaded by tall, leafy trees. Prices range from $75,000 to $170,000, varying based on square footage, the number of bedrooms and the status of any necessary renovations.

Food trucks, breweries and second-hand shops add local flavor
The nearest area supermarkets are the Lowe’s Market on 14th Street and the S & S at Hilltop Plaza North, although there are convenience stores and a Dollar General nearby for when locals need to make a quick trip for a gallon of milk or daily household items. The town’s Walmart Supercenter is about 10 minutes north of most neighborhood homes. Main Street, a hub of local businesses and restaurants, forms the eastern boundary of the neighborhood. “Our downtown Main Street organization has done some amazing work,” Waters says. “There are a couple of second-hand stores, a brewery and a couple of restaurants.” Bandolero Brewery is a local organization that offers craft beers, wines and ciders, as well as a comforting bar food menu. Food trucks also form an important part of Clovis’ culinary scene. “Food Truck Fridays has been a big calling card for the Main Street area,” Waters adds. This event, which takes place every third Friday from May through November, features rotating lineups of local trucks that take over the parking lot at the intersection of 8th Street and Main.

Residents are a 5-minute drive from Hillcrest Park, home to the city’s softball complex, aquatic center and the Hillcrest Park Zoo.
