First observance of Flag Day 13 miles from Pittsburgh

Flags fly high in Collier Township, 13 miles from Pittsburgh, honoring the location as the first observance of Flag Day. To mark the township's observance of the national holiday, community volunteers built a Flag Day Monument, Flag Plaza and Veterans memorial outside the Township Municipal Building. Surrounded by dense greenery and positioned beside Interstate 79 and Interstate 376, Collier is a place many hospital-workers and commuters call home. "Collier Township is really accessible," says Kassie Cable, a Realtor with Howard Hanna Real Estate Services. "It catches so many different places where there's a lot going on."

Ranches to Colonial Revivals in Colliers nine neighborhoods

Residents who are 55-plus may reside in the Cloverleaf Community of ranch-style manufactured homes. Large Colonial Revival-style homes feature prominently in the Nevillewood neighborhood near The Club at Nevillewood. With the addition of Foursquare, Colonial Revivals continued into Walkers Mill, where the first settlers of Collier made their home. Smaller, contemporary homes in the split-level and ranch styles run along the gridded streets of Rennerdale and Ewingsville. Beechmont has flat-faced brick and vinyl-sided Colonial Revivals, townhouses, condos and apartment complexes. Homes have small lots and are built upwards in Presto and Kirwan Heights, featuring Foursquares and bungalows. On the opposite end, Hickman, one of the oldest parts of Collier, has vintage homes on large lots. Fort Pitt is similar to Hickman but with more contemporary housing. Condos and townhouses range from $250,000 to $350,000. Single-family homes range from $125,000 to $650,000, while large estates in the Nevillewood community range from $800,000 to over $2 million.
