What began as a settlement for recently freed Black Americans became one of Columbus's longest-standing Black communities: Bottoms-Meeler's Hill. The community started as shotgun houses along Wynn's Hill and Meeler's Hill slopes. After World War II, federal funding helped to redevelop the area into homes and rentals. The community has been home to generations of families who retain pride in their community. As Columbus grows around the neighborhood, housing renovation investments are helping restore parts of Bottoms-Meeler's Hill. “Like so many areas in MidTown, there’s a beautiful history here and beautiful homes,” says Realtor Alison Cox with Keller Williams River Cities. Cox has nearly 20 years of real estate experience. “Some areas just need a little more TLC to make the community shine, and that is happening there.”

A mix of post-war bungalows and ranch-style homes
Builders replaced the community's initial shingle cottages and shotgun homes in the late 1940s and early 1950s. There are many homes where owners have maintained upkeep over the years, but there are also homes showing signs of wear and tear that invite those looking to renovate and personalize their homes. Buyers will find a mix of brick ranch-style homes and bungalows, typically costing between $60,000 and $115,000. The budget-friendly prices here make it an option for those seeking starter homes or investments.
Some homes have carports for shade in the hot summer months.
