Homes here cost less than most Columbus neighborhoods

While many homes in the area date back to the early 1900s, most of the development occurred in the mid-20th century. “It is populated with newer houses than many of the other older neighborhoods in Columbus because it was built during times of suburban sprawl,” says Jason Hottle, Realtor and founder of Modern Ohio Realty, who has been selling in the area for over a decade. These mid-century properties include ranch-style houses, small cottages and two-story homes. The older residences include bungalows, American Foursquares and National Folk styles. “Homebuyers often choose this place because they grew up in the neighborhood,” says Realtor Janene Parham with Red 1 Realty.

Prices trend lower than most Columbus neighborhoods, including the nearby Bridgeview. A single-family house can cost between the mid-$100,000s and the mid-$200,000s, depending on size and condition. There are also plenty of investment properties, which can cost well under $100,000. Habitat for Humanity – MidOhio’s Home Repair Program helps low-income households complete necessary updates. Over half of the residents rent.

Commuters can easily drive downtown

While the Central Ohio Transit Authority has a bus route along Agler Road, most residents rely on cars. “[Arlington Park] is not along any of our major transportation corridors,” Hottle says. “It was built during a time when people favored suburban style, auto-centric neighborhoods.” Major roads like Interstate 670 and Interstate 71 are less than 5 miles, or 10 minutes, away. Parham says that the neighborhood’s central location attracts commuters working downtown or in the North Side.

Columbus City Schools have average ratings

Arlington Park is part of the Columbus City School District. Schools in the neighborhood have average ratings. The district’s school lottery offers families flexibility on where they can attend.

Easton Town Center has plenty of shopping and dining options nearby

Arlington Park’s central location means that shops and restaurants are a short drive away. “It has great proximity to the Easton area, which is one of Columbus’ premier shopping, dining and entertainment destinations,” Hottle says. At the Easton Town Center, you can find grocery stores like Trader Joe’s and Costco, as well as popular retailers like Macy’s and an AMC theater. There are a number of sit-down restaurants, like Kona Grill, and fast-food chains. More local options, such as Ena’s Caribbean Kitchen, are located along Cleveland Avenue.

Locals spend time at Mock Park and nearby green spaces
