A series of subdivisions
The Blacklick Estates are the most prominent subdivision in East Columbus-White Ash. The locality is a census-designated place, with more than 9,000 residents living in a 3-square-mile network of winding streets and cul-de-sacs. Houses on these streets vary mainly between postwar split-levels, bungalows and ranch-style houses with three to four bedrooms and selling in a range from $200,000 to $350,000. Newer subdivisions of homes are being built on the outskirts of these older subdivisions, mostly 3,000-square-foot-plus neo-colonials on medium-sized lots listed for under $400,000. On the eastern side of this large neighborhood, in White Ash, there are a few sprawling ranch-style homes on lots up to 5 acres next to homes in more upscale subdivisions like the Courtyards at Lehman Park, selling for under $600,000.Public trails and nature preserves
In the 1,500-acre Walnut Woods Metro Park, the area's ubiquitous white ash trees crowd in dense forests of old-growth maple, pine and sweetgum trees. The vast green space has several miles of wilderness trails and opportunities for fishing and canoeing in Big Walnut Creek. There are many unofficial green spaces throughout this exurban neighborhood, but at 1,600 acres, Pickerington Ponds Metro Park is the largest. Over 20 miles of trails, including the 16-mile paved Blacklick Greenway Trail, plus a 420-acre nature preserve known as the site of an array of rare birdlife, make this metro park a destination for Columbusites all over.Split between two school districts
East Columbus-White Ash is divided between two school districts, the Groveport Madison Local School District, which serves the western side of the neighborhood, including Blacklick Estates, and the Canal Winchester Local School District, which serves the east side of the locale, near Pickerington Ponds Metro Park. In the Groveport District, Sedalia Elementary School received a C-plus from the school ranking website Niche and Groveport Madison Middle School North received a C. Winchester Trail Elementary School received a B and Canal Winchester High School received a B-plus. Both are in the Canal Winchester District. Canal Winchester High School has a robust career guidance program.30 minutes to Columbus along Route 33
East Columbus-White Ash is bordered by Interstate 70 to the north, which runs from Utah east through Ohio and terminates outside Baltimore, Maryland. On the southern side, Route 33, or the Southwest Expressway, runs northwest through Columbus. Commuters can reach downtown Columbus in under 30 minutes during rush hour. Residents can catch the number 5 bus of the Columbus Transportation Authority, or COTA, in the northwestern part of the neighborhood and arrive in Downtown Columbus in under an hour.Famous brewery and nearby amenities
The number 5 bus terminates near the Gender Road Towne Centre, where patrons in the northwestern part of East Columbus-White Ash will find a Kroger, a local pizza spot and a Superior Urgent Care and Addiction Medicine facility. The southeastern section of the neighborhood, along Route 33, has a large town center called Winchester Square, where patrons can shop at a Walmart Supercenter or a local bike shop, eat at Panera or O'Charley's Restaurant & Bar, or work out at a gym. The BrewDog DogHouse Columbus Hotel and Brewery is the most famous destination in these parts. This hometown beer maker operates the world's first hotel in a craft brewery.
