Sandwiched between New Albany and Columbus
The tightly packed condos, apartments and single-family homes of Preserve South offset the winding, manicured drives of neighboring Preserve North. This planned community between New Albany and Columbus offers lower median prices than its other half, as well as a centralized design. “When they were building Preserve South, they put apartments in the middle and created a little nucleus with a gym, pool, a bar, you name it," says Gayla McKay, Realtor with Red 1 Realty and broker at LC Gahanna, the apartment complex at the center of Preserve South. "Then they built condos around that and so on. It’s a popular choice for both new and existing homeowners. It’s close to the freeway and they’re building up Hamilton Corridor for shopping. Wexner Medical Center is also right nearby.”
Preserve South is a mixed community of apartments and single family homes northeast of Columbus.
Single family homes in Preserve South sell for about $300,000 to 400,000.

Apartments at the center, detached homes on the outskirts
The community features an almost even split between renters and owners. LC Gahanna apartment complexes create the center blocks, which are surrounded by the community of Preserve Crossing, a mix of New Traditional-style, brick or vinyl-sided condos and townhouses built in the late 2000s. Tidy front steps lead to white porticos on these row homes, which include back alleys leading to detached garages. Tight front lawns are the only green space here save for local parks, though some properties include private back patios with space for an umbrella, bikes and a few chairs. The outermost portion of the community is formed by New Traditional homes and open-concept ranch-style homes in subdivisions like Willows at Preserve Crossing and Collingwood Pointe at the Preserve. Those looking to own in Preserve South find options ranging from $225,000 to $400,000, with condos on the lower end of the spectrum and detached homes on the higher end.

Thompson Park and other Columbus metro parks
Residents make their way to the center of Preserve South to dip into one of the two swimming pools or serve on the sand volleyball courts. All residents of Preserve Crossing subdivisions have access to these amenities regardless of their home type. And while the community is a comfortable distance from the hustle and bustle of Columbus, the city’s outdoor recreation system extends throughout the region. “Columbus does metro parks right!” McKay says. “Thompson Park is really cool and right off Thompson Road, though not as big as some of the others.” This 49-acre swath is less than a mile northeast of the community and includes a playground, athletic fields, an open-air pavilion and walking paths. Seasoned and amateur athletes play on several courts at New Albany Tennis Center, also located within the park. Hikers and horseback riders make the drive out to Rocky Fork Metro Park, where they explore 1,200 acres of woodland. Blendon Woods Metro Park—a 653-acre park that’s a favorite for bird and wildlife watching—is also a few miles west of the neighborhood.

“There’s a bunch of walkable downtown areas—Gahanna, New Albany—and honestly they all compete for who’s got the best farmer’s market,” McKay says. “Vendors will come in, and locals can shop there, meet up with their friends and that sort of thing.” Depending on their housing community, residents in Preserve Crossing may have community events to look forward to—and there’s often something on the schedule at The Goat Gahanna, a newly remodeled spot with a bar, cafe, sand volleyball leagues and frequent live music that serves as a natural social center for renters, owners and visitors alike. For a night out, locals make a reservation at The Barn at Rocky Fork Creek or check out nearby Wyandotte Winery, the oldest winery in Central Ohio. Heading to Stoneridge Plaza or Easton Town Center

The shopping center is a hub for big-box grocers like Kroger and Meijer, and also the closest spot for chain restaurant favorites. Regional chain BIBIBOP Asian Grill offers a build-your-own bowl experience in a casual atmosphere, while Longhorn Steakhouse and other sit-down restaurants are a common stop before heading to 16-screen Cinemark Stoneridge Plaza. Preserve South is about five miles east of Easton Town Center, a major Columbus shopping and entertainment destination with more than 200 shops, dining and entertainment attractions. It’s 3 miles southwest from New Albany Village Center, a mixed-use destination with pedestrian-friendly streets and Colonial Revival-style buildings. Getting from Preserve South to Columbus
Save for early morning strolls or family walks to dinner at The Goat Gahanna, Preserve South residents will need a car to reach most locations. “The Preserve is close to town centers, but I wouldn’t say it’s walkable [to them],” McKay says. “It’s pretty car-dependent except for the little downtown areas.” Commuters take Interstate 270 and Interstate 670 the 13.5 miles to downtown Columbus’ major employers, nightlife and cultural attractions like Arena District, German Village and Columbus Museum of Art. Commercial flights take off from John Glenn Columbus International Airport, which is about 9 miles away. Ohio State Outpatient Care New Albany—a 3-mile drive north on Hamilton Road—is a component of Wexter Medical Center that offers a wide range of medical services for Gahanna and New Albany Residents.
Intel's impact on Columbus suburbs
“Intel's coming to town, as I’m sure you’ve heard the chatter,” says McKay. The corporation’s new mega-site will span 1,000 acres in Licking County, about 10 miles northeast of the community, which is expected to bring new interest to the Columbus housing market. Those interested in checking out Preserve South should keep competition in mind as homebuyers choose the neighborhood for its close proximity to this major employer.
