Shepard is five miles from downtown
Columbus’ Shepard neighborhood is a calm residential enclave less than five miles east of the city’s downtown. It was named for Dr. William Shepard, who founded a “water cure” spa at the northeast corner of the neighborhood in the mid-1800s.

The I-670 Bikeway gives access to nearby parks
There are no public parks in Shepard, but residents can hop on the Interstate 670 Bikeway at several access points. From there, you can easily bike or walk to different parts of Shepard, or to parks and trails in nearby neighborhoods. It’s less than a mile to Hayden Park, a two-acre park that borders the bikeway. The neighborhood also has a community garden on an empty residential lot where residents can grow their own flowers or vegetables.
Hayden Park offers many picnic areas throughout the park for Shepard residents to enjoy.
Hayden Park is a trailhead for the Alum Creek Trail, which provides access to Shepard Park.
Bike commuters in Shepard have access to the fully paved Interstate 670 Bikeway.

The local library was renovated in 2016
Head down 5th Avenue, the neighborhood’s main thoroughfare, and you’ll find a corner market, a Family Dollar, a couple of churches and a barbershop. You can also check out a book at the Shepard Branch of the Columbus Metropolitan Library, renovated and expanded in 2016.
The John Glenn Airport is three miles away
The neighborhood is at the crook of Interstate 670 where it curves toward downtown Columbus. It’s a short drive to the city’s culture, entertainment and business centers. Shepard is also just three miles from John Glenn Columbus International Airport.
