Suburban living in a neighborhood north of Columbus

Named after a residential subdivision within the neighborhood, Village at Worthington is a suburb located 15 miles north of Downtown Columbus. The neighborhood is also home to The Sanctuary, a private residential community comprised of single-family homes and condominiums. Beth Kiefaber, a real estate agent with Coldwell Banker Realty, has sold homes in The Sanctuary: “Many people have lived there and loved it, so they don’t move. Turnover is minimal. It’s a gated area, there are good schools nearby and lots of nature due to the ravine,” she says. The ravine is a natural area located on the west side of The Sanctuary that has been designated a wildlife reserve. K-12 students living here are served by the Worthington City School District, which receives an overall A-minus rating from Niche.

An in-demand housing market

In the Village at Worthington subdivision in the southern part of the neighborhood, residents can find a number of turnkey New Traditional and split-level single-family homes that feature a mix of vinyl and brick exteriors. Wide sidewalks line the subdivision’s streets, making the residential area considerably walkable. “People also love that those very sidewalks are lined with mature trees. It makes the area especially beautiful,” says Andy Whiteman, a local realtor with RE/MAX Achievers. At The Sanctuary in the neighborhood’s northern part, there are options for both single-family and multi-family properties. “Condos on one side offer easier living style and homes on the other side are large, made up of stone, stucco and brick and 1908’s style,” Kiefaber says. The median price of a home here is just over $400,000, although residences in The Sanctuary tend to price higher in the $500,000 to $650,000 range.

Flint Station is a local staple

Within the neighborhood itself is Flint Station, a bar, eatery and event space that was originally built in 1868 and has become a local staple. Patrons can enjoy specialty cocktails, live music and karaoke events every week. Additional shopping and dining destinations are only a short drive away. “The main street in the area is 23 North High Street, and it has a lot of restaurants along there,” Kiefaber says. The Shops at Worthington Place is a shopping mall located approximately 2 miles away just south of Interstate 270; here, locals can do their weekly grocery shopping at Kroger before heading into the main indoor mall for a range of apparel stores, boutique shops and chain dining locations.
