Westbrooke
Suburban Neighborhood in Columbus, Ohio
Franklin County 43026
HOA maintains the neighborhood's clean-cut look
Westbrooke is within Columbus city limits but is locally considered part of Hilliard, a popular suburb for those looking for more space. "What I typically see is people are buying their first house or condo closer to downtown, and then when they start their family, they move up into Hilliard for the affordability," says John Kohlhepp, Realtor with Keller Williams Capital Partners Realty. Prices range from $250,000 to $475,000, occasionally climbing over $500,000. Most homes are from the late 1990s or early 2000s and have been recently renovated. Square footage varies widely, from 1000 square feet to over 3000 square feet. Two-story New Traditional and Colonial-inspired homes sport tidy lawns accented by mature shade trees and well-maintained sidewalks. Vintage-looking streetlights and mailboxes shaped like mini houses dot some of the neighborhood's wide roads, while basketball hoops peek over short driveways. The Westbrooke Subdivision Homeowners' Association oversees the community. Homeowners are automatic members, and volunteers work together to maintain the neighborhood and organize small events, like an annual garage sale.
Passing through multiple parks on the Mudsock Trail
Frank's Park slices through the center of the community, with a river and multi-use trail traveling its length. The Mudsock Trail connects to the Clover Groff Natural Area, a 20-acre nature preserve popular for bird watching, and Spindler Road Park. Frank's Park also has sports fields, a lake and a playground. Heritage Golf Club sits beside the neighborhood. The private golf facility has a P.B. Dye-designed championship course that hosts independent play and annual tournaments. Members also have access to upscale dining and a busy calendar of events.Past the golf club is Roger A. Reynolds Municipal Park. Offering 130 acres, the park is a destination within Hilliard. Sports leagues meet year round on the diverse athletic fields, and visitors use the park's hill to sled in the winter and gaze up at fireworks in summer. Summer also means the aquatic center opens up Hilliard's largest pool with slides, a splash park and a lazy river.
Nearby Hilliard schools are highly rated
The neighborhood is within the Hilliard City School District, a major draw for the area with an overall Niche score of A-minus. Kids attend Alton Darby Elementary School for kindergarten through second grade and Darby Creek Elementary for grades three through five. The schools are next door to one another and within walking distance of many Westbrooke homes. Alton Darby has a B on Niche, while Darby Creek has a B-plus. Next is Hilliard Memorial Middle School, which also has a B-plus score. Hilliard Bradley High School students dabble in copywriting, photography and editing while working for the school newspaper, Jaguar Times. The school earns an A-minus score.Commuting to the city via two interstates
While some residents work around Hilliard or remotely, most commute daily. "Someone has to run the restaurants out there, but most people work in downtown Columbus or in some of the other big hubs, like up near Marysville and the Honda plant," Kohlhepp says. Interstates 270 and 70 lead to these major cities, and the closest onramps are less than 4 miles away. Hilliard Rome Road is the neighborhood's main thoroughfare between Hilliard and I-70. Central Ohio Transit Authority bus stops run along it. Mount Carmel Hilliard medical center and OhioHealth Doctors Hospital are within 7 miles, while John Glenn Columbus International Airport is 19 miles away.Warm spiced drinks at Qamaria Yemeni Coffee Co.
The community's border touches Hilliard Rome Road, a long commercial strip. Residents head to the closest retail cluster along it to play pool at Bankshot Billiards & Bar or grab a bite at The Olive Tree Lebanese & Mediterranean Café. The smell of cardamon fills the air at Qamaria Yemeni Coffee Co., which pairs spiced coffee with pistachio milk cake. The closest grocery store is Marrakesh Market, which specializes in halal goods, but Kroger is 1 mile down the road at the corner of Roberts and Hilliard Rome roads. Various chain and local restaurants surround the intersection, offering diverse cuisine. Ten Pin Alley, a neon-lit bowling alley, is also within 1 mile, and shops like Circle K and Goodwill are nearby.
