Part of the Far West district, Cross Creek is a neighborhood of fairly uniform houses on quiet suburban streets. Many families choose the area for potentially lower Columbus taxes while still falling into the highly rated Hilliard City Schools district. Homebuyers also like how close it is to parks, shopping and a good mix of restaurants.
Most of the homes here were built in the early 1990s, so you’ll notice designs are similar. "The same developer built the homes, which have one of six or seven floor plans," says Dan Russell, a Realtor with Howard Hanna Real Estate. "You're not going to deviate much from those home styles in this neighborhood." You’ll see a lot of split-levels and ranch-style houses, along with some colonial and Craftsman-inspired builds. That said, many have developed their own personalities over time. Lori Lynn, a Realtor with Keller Williams Consultants Realty, says that updates over the years have made a difference. “A lot of people, for 35 years, have done work to the houses,” she says, noting the finished basements, new roofs and other common upgrades across Cross Creek. “Even though in this neighborhood a lot of the houses look similar, now you’re starting to see more character,” she says. Single-family homes usually sell between the high $200,000s and the mid-$500,000s, with a median price in the low $400,000s. That usually puts Cross Creek above Sweetwater, Hilliard Green and Timberbrook, but still below Hilliard and Brown. Townhomes and condos are also in the mix, often selling between the mid-$100,000s and high $200,000s. Monthly HOA fees typically run from $200 to $400 and usually cover services like lawn care, sewer and trash.
Cross Creek is zoned for Hilliard City Schools, which Niche ranks among the 10 best school districts in Ohio. Hilliard Crossing Elementary School is in the neighborhood’s northern end, making it a short walk for many local students. Hilliard Darby High School offers a wide range of academic programs, including Advanced Placement courses, as well as career-focused programs that connect to real-world fields. Students and parents also tend to notice its strong athletics and performing arts programs, as well as its modern campus. Hilliard City Schools mainly offers intradistrict transfers, allowing families to request a different school, but placement usually comes down to available space and district rules. Out-of-district transfers follow district policy and may be limited or not available.
Hilliard Rome Road is lined with a variety of shopping options, including Kroger, Kohl’s and Old Navy. Hilliard itself has dozens of locally owned restaurants with styles for every taste:
According to Drew Dorfmeyer, a former front desk staff member for Hilliard’s parks and recreation department, the most popular park nearby is Roger A. Reynolds Municipal Park. "It's where we have our pool and ballfields, and we also have a big stream in the back that people walk along," he says. While kayaking and canoeing aren’t as common, fishing definitely is. "There's a stream and two ponds; those are both filled with fish." This 130-acre park also includes the Hilliard Family Aquatic Center, an 18-hole disc golf course and an inclusive playground. Closer to home, Cross Creek Park is a smaller option with open green space and a cricket field.
Interstates 70 and 270 are the closest highways, putting downtown Columbus about 10 miles away. Most people here rely on driving to get around, but the Central Ohio Transit Authority has some bus stops along Hilliard Rome Road.
