Suburban Neighborhood in Columbus, Ohio
Franklin County 43081
Biking past grand Tudor homes
The curved streets of Worthington Highlands feature wide bike paths, well-kept sidewalks and red-brick speed tables, making the neighborhood an optimal place for an afternoon promenade. Basketball hoops sit outside driveways, and tall trees at the edges of front lawns offer passersby welcome shade on sunny days. Two-story homes from the 1990s with two-car garages, vinyl siding and Colonial-inspired shuttered windows are common throughout. However, the area also has its fair share of grandiose Tudor homes and is home to two town house communities. Fieldstone Trace and Stratford Chase Townhomes are renter-only areas and feature on-site amenities like clubhouses and pools. For buyers, home prices in the area typically range from $400,000 to $525,000.Pet-friendly parks and botanical gardens
Several green spaces are at locals’ disposal directly outside the neighborhood. Half a mile away, Flint Park is a family-friendly area with a sizable playground suitable for multiple ages, picnic areas and a walking path that winds through the woods. The park is also dog-friendly, as long as they’re leashed. Sancus Park, 1 mile southeast, is also a favorite, mainly because mature trees shade its playground. For hikers, cyclists and nature enthusiasts, there’s always a trail within reach. Named for its 100-foot-high shale bluff overlooking the scenic Olentangy River, Highbanks Metro Park is 3 miles away and features nearly a dozen paths. The 1,200-acre park is the most visited in the Franklin County Metro Parks system, drawing around 1 million visitors annually. It was named a National Natural Landmark in 1980. Sharon Woods Metro Park, a woodland oasis 2 miles away with several interconnecting trails, is also a popular place to walk or bike, while Inniswood Metro Gardens, a 123-acre botanical garden, is 6 miles west of the community.Students zoned for highly rated Worthington school district
Hamrick shares that “Worthington schools are one of the more desirable school districts in Central Ohio” and a major reason why people are drawn to the area. Students in the neighborhood attend Worthington Park Elementary School, which is within walking distance, followed by Worthingway Middle School. Both schools earn a B-plus rating on Niche. High schoolers attend Thomas Worthington High School, which has an A-minus Niche score. Thomas Worthington High and Worthingway Middle are typically ranked among the top schools in Ohio. The neighborhood is also under 2 miles from the unrated Pontifical College Josephinum, a Roman Catholic seminary and private university with European-influenced architecture, a chapel with elegant stained glass and colorful murals, and a steeple visible from many surrounding neighborhoods.
Highways at every corner
Hamrick shares that Worthington's infrastructure is relatively car-dependent, so most residents drive to get around. The neighborhood is within 2 miles of several major highways, including Interstates 71 and 270 and U.S. State Route 23. Bus stops are along Sancus Boulevard, and Worthington Highlands is 12 miles from Downtown Columbus. For long-distance travel, the closest airport is John Glenn Columbus International Airport 14 miles south.Three-course meals at Nomad
Polaris Fashion Place and Towne Center is a premier regional shopping destination just north of the neighborhood. Residents can find every kind of day-to-day item they might need at this upscale, two-story indoor and outdoor mall. It features major grocery and department chains like Costco, Target, Kroger and Ikea, and it anchors tenants like Macy’s, Saks Fifth Avenue and Public Lands outdoor store. According to Thomas Hamrick, Realtor at Keller Williams Consultants Realty and Worthington area expert, Polaris also has many one-of-a-kind restaurants. He recommends Nomad, which a friend of his owns. “They do a three-course menu for 45 dollars, and you get to pick your three courses. Their carrot cake and the brie and apple butter crostini are absolutely delicious. Their lemon curd creme brûlée is so good, too.” Worthington Highlands is also 3-1/2 miles north of Worthington’s historic commercial district. One of the first planned communities in the Midwest, it traces its roots to the early 1800s and resembles traditional New England towns with brick-lined walkways, historic landmarks and a central village green that hosts community events. Hamrick says the area is very walkable and filled with upscale dining and antique shopping.
