Commerce City suburb surrounded by natural recreation
Buffalo Mesa’s subdivision is lined with single-family homes from the early 2000s, just north of the open prairie where bison roam. With the Denver International Airport nearby, this suburb of Commerce City appears to be an isolated residential area, but much of it is in different developmental stages. Still, the neighborhood has nearby shopping centers and is in proximity to the outdoors, located between two of the area’s primary sources of recreation: Barr Lake State Park and Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge.
Just minuets away you'll find a Walmart which services several local neighborhoods.

Recreation from playground to refuge with roaming wildlife
The neighborhood has a community pool and a playground, while sitting close to expansive green spaces and mountainous terrain. Second Creek Trail’s over 17-mile, bicycle-friendly path runs south through the neighborhood’s west side to the Arsenal Perimeter Trail at Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge. The refuge spans 15,000 acres and includes over 20 miles of hiking trails and an 11-mile road for viewing wildlife by car. The refuge’s remaining acres include an archery range, two fishing lakes and open space where wildlife such as deer roam. “That’s always a great spot for people just to walk around, and they can just be outdoors, and it doesn't feel like such a suburb,” says Cristina Geiger, a local broker and owner of Key Team Real Estate Corporation with 8 years of experience in Denver. Second Creek Trail also passes through Fronterra Park, which has a disc golf course, nature-themed playground and skate park.
Barr Lake State Park spans over 2,700 acres, including five different trails and an almost 2,000-acre reservoir, where kayakers and paddleboarders glide past anglers fishing off the shore and from boats with low horsepower. “[The Barr Lake Nature Center] has many things with kids. They'll bring in owls, or they'll bring in hawks, and they do a lot with the local Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts in the area, which is cool,” Geiger says. Buffalo Run Golf Course’s 18-hole links-style course is just north of the neighborhood. Bison Ridge Recreation Center spans 108,000 square feet and offers various fitness courses, an indoor pool, pickleball courts and a dance studio.
Barr Lake State Park is home to hundreds of bird species, including bald eagles.
Parks and outdoor spaces are abundant in Commerce City, contributing to its family culture.

New traditionals adorning stonework and paneling
One- and two-story new traditional houses with a combination of stone and panel siding line the subdivision’s sidewalks. These homes have one- to two-car attached garages and flat yards that are often fenced for dogs to have a space to run. Home prices range from $415,000 to $620,000. Monthly homeowners association fees of around $40 fund snow plowing of community sidewalks, open space landscaping and park and pool maintenance.
