A home base in the East Bay
Thirty-eight miles east of downtown San Francisco is the city of Concord, which contains the Ellis Lake neighborhood. This community attracts those who want to live in the East Bay region of San Francisco for a lower price. “Ellis Lake is great for first-time homebuyers and others who can’t buy in some of the more expensive areas of Contra Costa County,” says Denisen Hartlove, a Realtor with the Dudum Real Estate Group. She’s also lived in Concord for 26 years. In the shadow of Mt. Diablo, Ellis Lake also includes plenty of opportunities for outdoor recreation.

Strolling around the neighborhood's namesake lake
The neighborhood namesake and the surrounding Ellis Lake Park encompasses 10 acres. A paved path winds around the lake, where waterfowl and turtles can be seen. Families can unwind at Meadow Homes Park’s playground and soccer field, located next to Meadow Homes Elementary School. The nearby Contra Costa Canal Trail is a multiuse, whole-access trail stretching nearly 14 miles and connecting several area parks. The Lime Ridge Trail Run’s flat loop is just south of the neighborhood and offers views of Mt. Diablo. Locals can also go swimming at nearby Concord Community Pool and skating at Concord Skatepark. Although Ellis Lake has plenty of places to enjoy the outdoors, the area experiences 20 days annually of poor air quality. This is partially because of the neighborhood’s location: Ellis Lake sits within a valley, where air pollutants get trapped between higher elevations and linger due to low wind speeds.
Relax and unwind in the beautiful, serene Ellis Lake community.

Houses were built as far back as the 1950s with architectural styles ranging from ranch-styles to midcentury moderns. Single-family homes range from $680,000 to $800,000. “There have been people who have moved from more expensive areas like Berkeley, Oakland or Daly City, including entrepreneurs and tech employees. It’s resulted in a wonderful stew of people,” Hartlove says. Condos range from about $400,000 to $700,000.
