Finding privacy on East Concord properties
Capes and colonials dot the maple tree-shaded cul-de-sacs and residential roads. Properties often have sprawling front lawns and sizeable back yards, large enough for play structures, pools and patios. Small communities, such as Mountain Green, have newer builds, though other areas of East Concord feature homes that date back to the 19th and 20th centuries. Prices tend to fall from $400,000 to $800,000, though some Colonial Revivals and multi-acre lots can exceed this range. Neighbors can be seen walking the dog or jogging along the wide roads, devoid of street parking. Although the country club requires membership, the driving range is open to anyone, serving as a popular attraction right outside the back door of many homes.Wading in the water at Turtle Pond and hiking Les Clark
Merrill Park is one of East Concord’s main gathering spaces, featuring a playground, athletic facilities, like lighted tennis courts and Little League fields, and a pool. The park has a small pond, though Turtle Pond is larger, offers a boat ramp and docks, and is popular among anglers. The Merrimack River, along with the Outdoor Education & Conservation Area, is on the southern part of East Concord, where visitors can hike the Les Clark Nature Trail, fish throughout the floodplain or admire the wildlife habitats. Other pathways through forested land include the Oak Hill Hiking Trails and Knowlton Forest Trails, which can be reached from Shaker Road.Public and private schools near East Concord
Children in prekindergarten through second grade can begin their education at Mill Brook School, which earns a B grade on Niche. Broken Ground has a C-plus and offers classes for third through fifth graders. All students in the Concord School District attend Rundlett Middle, with a C-plus, and Concord High, which scores a B. With 58 programs including skiing and field hockey, Concord High ranks in the top 3% for athletics in the country, according to Niche. Families can also choose the neighborhood’s private option for prekindergarten through eighth grade at Shaker Road School.Special events at Merrill Park and the Concord Country Club
Most Concord events occur downtown or in the Heights neighborhood, though Merrill Park hosts a few get-togethers. Locals often rent out the park for private parties, though the Concord Public Library frequently holds story times and summer reading picnics here. Merrill Park also has the Bike Rodeo Block Party, where participants can decorate their bikes for the July Fourth parade and play sidewalk games. Members of the Concord Country Club can attend various special programs, as well, including Sunday barbecues, late night swims and water aerobics classes.Transportation options in and around East Concord
With interstates 93 and 393 cutting through East Concord, the rest of the city is easily accessible. Interstate 89 also runs nearby, along with Route 3. “You can be anywhere in Concord in minutes from here, but you still get a quiet area with a rural feel,” Mullen says. While Concord Area Transit buses have stops close by, most residents get around by car. Private planes can fly out of Concord Municipal Airport, just south of Loudon Road, while commercial flights take off from Manchester-Boston Regional Airport, about 26 miles away. The Eastside Market and dining on Loudon Road
Because East Concord mostly consists of homes and parks, shopping and dining is primarily done outside of the neighborhood. The Eastside Market provides convenience store needs, soft-serve ice cream and some prepared foods, like pizza and subs. Just about 3 miles south, Loudon Road offers a host of chain restaurants, as well as some local spots, like The Windmill, which serves breakfast and lunch. The Red Arrow Diner also sits off Loudon and is open for 24 hours on the weekends. The Red Arrow started in Manchester over 100 years ago and is a historic landmark in the city, as many politicians have eaten there during the New Hampshire primaries. A drive along Loudon Road leads to big-box shopping, including Shaw’s, Walmart and The Home Depot. Market Basket and Hannaford are also nearby, within about 4 miles.
