Conewago Township is an evolving suburban community in York County, where custom homes are being built on acres of rolling farmland. York is less than ten miles south, making it a convenient destination for work commutes or shopping trips to malls like West Manchester Town Center. Closer to the community are state parks and ski resorts in the Conewago Mountains. "The township is sort of right in that middle ground where you have a lot of scenic views and rural feel, but you're right in the middle of major cities like York, Harrisburg , Lancaster , and only an hour from Baltimore ," says Quinn Nadu, a Managing Partner with Millwood Custom Homes. "Homebuyers get a ton of value in Conewago Township, and it's why many of our buyers are coming from out of state and other counties."
Midcentury single-family homes and new builds in Bennett Run
Popular home styles in the area include Traditional and Craftsman-style homes, as well as Colonial Revivals and townhouses. Though there are occasional prewar and midcentury modern homes, there is a rapidly growing market of newly built custom homes in subdivisions like Bennett Run. "Bennett Run was a project that was started just after the tail end of the 2008 housing crisis and became one of the largest communities in York County," says Nadu. "Whether it's your first home purchase, a bigger home to fit your growing family, or a lower-maintenance home for retirement, there are plenty of options." Single-family homes run from $250,000 to $650,000, varying by square footage, lot size and age, while townhouses are priced from $215,000 to $290,000.
Baseball at Zion View Park, and parks in the Conewago Mountains
Zion View Athletic Park & Community Center is the town's main park, featuring a playground and a baseball field where Little League games are frequently played. Some of the town's expansive, undeveloped land has been converted into private parks and venues, like the Big R Bird Ranch, a hunting preserve for upland game birds. Gifford Pinchot State Park is west of Conewago Township and spans over 2,300 acres of farmland and wooded hills. Visitors often come to hike, hunt, play disc golf and camp, or kayak, swim and fish for bass at Pinchot Lake. The nearby Roundtop Mountain Resort offers 21 trails for skiing and snowboarding in the winter, as well as paintball courses and rock-climbing walls in the summer.
Conwewago Townships is served by Northeastern York School District
Northeastern York School District serves the Conewago Township area. Students can attend Conewago Elementary School, which has a B rating from Niche. Spring Forge Intermediate School receives a B-plus rating, while Northeastern Middle School gets a B, and Northeastern Senior High gets a B-plus. The Northeastern High School boys' soccer team won consecutive YAIAA league championships in 2024 and 2025, and the boys’ volleyball team secured the 2025 championship, the eleventh time the team has achieved that honor.
Residents shop and dine around the York area
East Manchester Village Center is home to a Giant for groceries, as well as fast-casual spots like Angelo's Pizza & Subs. Given the lack of commercial development in Conewago Township, many locals head to York for a shopping run or a bite to eat. Central Family Restaurant is located along North George Street, offering brunch, burgers, and seafood. York also has West Manchester Town Center, an indoor mall with numerous retailers, including Walmart and Kohl's.
Harrisburg and York are half an hour away
There are multiple rabbittransit bus stops along Main Street, with service covering the majority of York County.For those residents who prefer to use their own cars to get around, Interstate 83 takes drivers to Harrisburg, about 19 miles away. "A lot of people living here work in York because it's such a quick drive, but Lancaster, Baltimore, and Harrisburg are very doable drives too," says Nadu. "Conewago Township is in the heart of the main business corridors on I-83...there are hundreds of local and international companies with a presence here, whether it is warehousing, trucking, construction, manufacturing, agriculture, medical or professional office jobs." Harrisburg International Airport is about 55 miles north. York is 8 miles south and is home to UPMC Memorial Hospital.
