Schools are the draw

Homeowners seeking privacy are flocking to Cottontown. Some of the biggest draws are new builds, farmhouses, ranch-style houses, barns, log homes, and brick ranches on sprawling lots. In addition, a very desirable school district is impacting the Cottontown housing market. “It is a popular area. Homes are going quickly,” explains Lora Lovell of Re/Max Choice Properties. “The Liberty Creek schools are drawing people there. And, because of the schools, resale values are up.”

Privacy is a top priority

Bigger is better in pastoral and rural Cottontown. Lots are as big as 81,892 square feet and most houses are 2,295 square feet. Price points hover around $300,000 to $3.1 million. Residents in the community value their solitude. “The houses are spread out,” Lovell, who has sold homes in the region for ten years. “People love the privacy. They are not on top of each other.”

Lots to do at Old Hickory Lake

The neighborhood has no local parks, but Old Hickory Lake, named after former U.S. President Andrew Jackson, is a 12-mile drive. Guests take pleasure in pontoon boat sunbathing and jet skiing. And at the lake, some locals go hunting or birdwatching. Other visitors to the lake enjoy the fishing, with largemouth, spotted, and smallmouth bass being the most sought-after catches of the day. Locals also learn to ride horses at the Liberty Creek Farm. Those seeking other green spaces can visit the more than a dozen parks within 10 miles like the 185-acre Triple Creek Park

The Whiskey Cave is a must-go shopping experience

One of the unique shops in the area is The Whiskey Cave, where folks can buy vintage and new Jack Daniels Whiskey apparel. Other shopping needs are met nearby in Gallatin, which has several grocery stores like Publix and Food Lion. Those who want to go out to eat can trek to Gallatin, Hendersonville or Nashville, all of which are less than 45 minutes away. All three areas have several boutiques, restaurants, museums and storefronts.

Sumner County schools earn high praise

Because Sumner County Schools, an A-minus-ranked school system by Niche, were overcrowded, three new schools were built in nearby Gallatin: Liberty Creek Elementary, Liberty Creek Middle and Liberty Creek High. The high school opened in September 2022 and is currently housing the middle school students until construction on that school is complete. Because of the newness of the schools, Niche and GreatSchools have not yet rated the institutions as of yet.

Nashville is a 45-minute trek

Those seeking mass transit will have to make the 10-mile drive to Gallatin. The Nashville Metropolitan Transit Authority operates daily bus service from Gallatin to downtown Nashville. Tennessee State Route 6, also known as U.S. Route 31E, connects inhabitants to Nashville in 45 minutes. There are also two airports to select from for long-distance passengers. Music City Executive is in Gallatin and Nashville International Airport is a 45-minute excursion.
