Crows Nest offers privacy in community with historic appeal
Crows Nest is an incorporated town made up of an enclave of private estates along the winding Sunset Lane. The estates feature between two and twenty acres, and properties on the eastern side of Sunset Lane border the White River. Crows Nest has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 2000, and its history stretches back to the early 19th century when Marion County Commissioners established Crows Nest as a township. “This neighborhood is referred to by its inhabitants simply as ‘The Lane,’” says Pollach. “It’s got everything a family could want when looking for a large estate in a beautiful area.”

Houses in Crows Nest are rarely available for purchase and are listed starting at $2 million. Prospective buyers should note that a homeowner’s association provides security and snow removal, with monthly dues listed at $600. “This is an incredibly exclusive neighborhood,” says Reinhard Pollach, a realtor with Carpenter Realtors who listed a property on Sunset Lane. “It’s in a fantastic location, right by the river and not far from downtown, and is a very quiet area.” Houses are set back from the tree-lined street with long, winding driveways and gated entrances. Most houses are Colonial Revivals or Georgians, built in the 1900s, and featuring brick and stone facades. Some houses include Tudor features, including gable roofs and stately wooden beams. A few houses include additional gatehouses near the entrance of the properties, and others include private tennis courts. Behind the houses on the eastern side of Sunset Lane is a wide grassy field, perfect for a game of catch or taking a quiet stroll down to the riverside.
