Park East is a neighborhood in Culver City, home to Sony Pictures Studios on the legendary MGM lot, where film gems from Tarzan to The Wizard of Oz, to Tron, were produced. Associate broker for Cavanaugh Realtors, Julio Leyva said this neighborhood is “where everyone wants to live because it's far from the 405." And it’s not that the interstate is distant, it’s only a couple of miles away, but here in Park East, you’ll get the neighborhood feel of a calm respite. In fact, part of the area was developed on a former 1920’s horse racing track, so some streets have an oval layout, eliminating through traffic.

Homes

Architecture here includes Spanish and Mediterranean styles, with archways and red tile roofs; as well as midcentury designs with front porches or detailed brick work. Sizes and vintages range from a compact bungalow circa 1921, to a two-story of over 4,000 square feet, built in 2019.

Schools

Park East children may attend schools Culver City Unified District, boasting wins from multiple California Interscholastic Federation championships and more than 80 professional athletes among its alumni ranks. Nearby Culver City High School includes the Academy of Visual and Performing Arts and earned the State Seal of Biliteracy for student achievement in more than one language.

Parks

Relax at a picnic or barbecue with neighbors at Carlson Park, a community space of about two and a half acres. In the summer, Culver City Public Theater uses the park as a venue for free performances, such as Cybernella, a fairy tale spoof. A place to observe quiet nature is Ballona Creek, running along the east edge of the neighborhood, and a habitat for migratory and foraging birds such as herons, egrets and pelicans. Cruise down the adjacent bike path that runs 7 miles along Culver City to the Coast Bike Path that reaches the beach.

Shopping and Dining

Visit Culver Boulevard on the edge of the neighborhood for businesses and shops. Village Well Books & Coffee is a community hub, with events such as book club meetings, storytimes and author conversations. There’s plenty to occupy your evenings at Backstage Bar & Grill, picked as a top-rated karaoke winner by Readers’ Choice, the Los Angeles Times. And sleuth out Jackson Market, tucked away on a residential block. An area fixture for over 80 years, it’s known as “The Secret Garden,” for the back patio’s idyllic scenery, complete with a koi pond. Less than 3 miles away from Park East is Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, the last resting place of show business celebrities including Bela Lugosi, Rita Hayworth and Chris Penn.

Transportation

your pick from more than 100 shops and dining options. And if you’d like to explore more of the surrounding areas, downtown Los Angeles is only about 10 miles away.

We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
