Golf and shopping define Sherwood Lakeview

Sherwood Lakeview is close to golfing, shopping and sunny oceanfront in Delray Beach. The community includes three residential developments offering a relaxed Florida lifestyle. Lakeview Golf Club's greens and fairways wind throughout the neighborhood. "We are a part of Delray Beach, a really incredible town. It has a vibrant downtown area with bars and restaurants," says Charles Stravino, a Sherwood Lakeview resident and Sherwood Park Civic Association member. "Delray has been voted best All-American City three times. It was voted the best beach in Florida [by USA Today 10 Best Readers' Choice Awards]." Residents in Sherwood Lakeview enjoy easy access to nearby shopping centers, public schools and highways.

Residences include a mix of houses, townhomes and condos

Sherwood Park is the largest development inside the community. The subdivision contains single-family houses dating from the 1960s to the early 1980s; most have backyard pools. "Sherwood Park is a civic association that differs from an HOA that will have mandatory fees. Our neighborhood fees are voluntary. It's just $100 a year," Stravino says. Shady Woods includes duplexes, village homes and chalets. These dwellings were built between the 1970s and the 1980s. The two developments provide residents with a pool and other private amenities. Other subdivisions here include Lakeside Townhomes and Lakeview Greens Condominiums. Prices in Sherwood Lakeview for all home types typically start around $750,000 and can climb to over $1 million; outliers can list for upwards of $2.7 million.

Public schools nearby include magnet and career programs

The neighborhood is a part of the Palm Beach County School District, one of Florida's largest academic systems. All of the community’s districted public schools sit less than 3 miles from most homes. Orchard View Elementary has a B-minus rating on Niche. Carver Community Middle receives a C-plus; the school offers an International Baccalaureate magnet program. The B-plus-rated Atlantic Community High provides several career academy options, including construction, digital design, finance, medical and criminal justice programs.

Residents enjoy neighborhood fairways and nearby outdoor spaces

Lakeview Golf Club has been part of the area since the early 1970s, and is open to the public. The course is a par-60 executive layout that reaches behind several neighborhood homes. The club hosts charitable tournaments and family-friendly events. The private Seagate Golf Club sits to the north of the area. Orchard View Park is across Linton Boulevard, where visitors will find a playground, walking trails, picnic pavilions with grills and restrooms. Residents can also reach the sandy coastline of Delray Public Beach in roughly 15 minutes.

Walmart, ALDI and local dining favorites are minutes away

Delray Town Center stands in the neighborhood's southwestern corner. The retail plaza is home to an ALDI grocery store and restaurants such as Riptidez Kava Bar and Furin Sushi and Thai. BocaRay Plaza across the street contains businesses and more local dining spaces, such as Lily's Ice Cream and Poppies Restaurant & Deli. There is also a Walmart Supercenter about 2 miles away on Military Trail. The community is close to Atlantic Avenue's popular establishments and entertainment venues. "There are so many options nearby. There's a brand-new steak restaurant called Hyde Park on Atlantic," Stravino says.

Palm Tran routes and I-95 make commuting convenient

Commuters can hop on busses provided by Palm Tran, the regional public transportation service. Route 3 buses stop along Military Trail, while Route 88 runs along portions of Linton Boulevard. Delray Medical Center offers around-the-clock emergency care. The closest entrance to Interstate 95 is about half a mile from the area. Downtown Delray Beach is about 4 miles away.

As a coastal community, the city is prone to severe weather, such as tropical storms and hurricanes.

Residents enjoy local gatherings and city-wide festivals

The residential developments inside the community host several private gatherings. "For a small community, we do a lot of events," Stravino says. "We do an Easter egg hunt every year and a Halloween fest with a costume contest. We also have a holiday party in December and get a visit from Santa. And we have food and beverages at all the events." Area residents can also attend city-wide gatherings like the St. Patrick's Day Parade and Festival and Art & Jazz on the Avenue.

GreatSchools: The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
