A prosperous atmosphere outside of Denver
The historic neighborhood of Country Club features vintage homes that are admired by residents and visitors alike. Most were developed in conjunction with the establishment of Denver Country Club just to the south. Acclaimed restaurants contribute to the area’s upscale atmosphere, sitting alongside longtime local vendors and popular Denver haunts. “There's a lot going on around town,” notes Shell Ray, an associate at D’Art Gallery Denver. “Especially the Botanic Gardens. They do some really cool things beyond the plants: hosting artists, workshops and even shows. It’s a really cool area.”
Country Club’s quiet, affluent ambiance
Designed by influential architects of the early 20th century, turn-of-the-century homes with more than 3,000 square feet often boast Tudor, Gothic and Colonial Revival flourishes. Intertwined are regionally iconic Denver Squares and bungalows with authentic woodwork. Most homes sell for between $800,000 and $3 million, while some with 6,000 to 9,000 square feet overlooking Cheesman Park list for more than $9 million. With canopies of old-growth trees, wide sidewalks and plenty of street parking, the area is popular with residents and visitors alike, thanks to its affluent ambiance.
Seasonal produce and local ingredients on East Sixth Ave.
East Sixth Avenue is home to some of the neighborhood’s most impressive culinary options, like Fruition Restaurant and Satchel’s on 6th. An acclaimed farm-to-table establishment, Fruition is the innovation of chef and proprietor Alex Seidel, celebrating “the best of Colorado's seasonal produce and local ingredients.” Similarly, Satchel’s has evolved from a coffee shop to a full dining experience with a seasonal menu of American comfort food. Novo Coffee is a Denver favorite, roasting its own beans sourced from farms across the globe. Next door, Oliver’s Meat Market has been family owned for five generations. A local staple since 1923, Oliver’s premium cuts range from chicken to buffalo. Residents can also find Safeway and King Soopers within a mile of each other off North Downing Street.
A flourishing arts and humanities scene
Situated 3 miles south of Denver’s heart, Country Club provides its residents with easy access to the city’s most popular events in the humanities, like the Denver Arts and Five Points Jazz Festivals. A handful of art museums surround scenic spots like Civic Center Park, where a summer concert series attracts thousands of visitors from around the region. Closer to home are more niche festivities and spots for locals to enjoy. The Cherry Creek neighborhood hosts its own art festival each year in support of Colorado’s art education programs, while the Esquire Theater has shown films specializing in art house and foreign language cinema since 1927. Cheesman Park has hosted Denver Pride for years, as well as Cheesman Park Art Fest, which is well attended by locals.
Denver County’s A-rated schools
Students are zoned for Denver County 1 Schools, beginning at Bromwell Elementary School. Slavens K-8 School is also a popular option for families. Located less than 5 miles south in Wellshire, Slavens utilizes various classroom and learning theory models to cater to its diverse student body. Both Bromwell Elementary and Slavens receive an A-minus on Niche. Denver’s East High is one of four original public high schools in the city, while Denver School of the Arts enrolls sixth through 12th-grade students in a private setting. Both institutions receive an A on Niche.
The Denver Country Club
Denver Country Club, founded in 1887, is the oldest of its kind west of the Mississippi River. The neighborhood’s namesake remains highly exclusive with membership by invitation only. Members are welcome to enjoy a variety of racquet sports, as well as swimming and seasonal activities like croquet, lawn bowling and ice skating. The golf course is state-of-the-art and has been renovated over the years by notable architects. Cheesman Park is just north of Country Club and houses the Denver Botanic Gardens. The 80 acres of land include ornate gardens and walking paths, while the gardens boast a conservatory, themed exhibits and even a sunken amphitheater for concerts and other events.
Reaching the heart of the Mile High City
Interstate 70, Denver’s central thoroughfare, is accessible to Country Club’s residents just north of the neighborhood via North Downing Street. Residents can rely on the interstate to reach Aurora or head west toward the Rockies. Denver International Airport is also accessible via I-70, 25 miles northeast. I-25 intersects I-70 at the city’s heart, passing Ball Arena and the aquarium as it reaches north. East Sixth Avenue is lined with restaurants and shops, cutting through Country Club and conjoining with Speer Boulevard. Both streets provide Denver RTD bus stops.
GreatSchools:
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
