Denver’s major arts district and high-rise residences
Civic Center, known better as the Golden Triangle, is Denver’s major arts district. Home to some of the oldest residences in the area, the neighborhood’s dwellings have been repurposed into museums, restaurants and offices. “There’s always so much to do around here,” says Keegan Dunn, operations supervisor at The Spot Bouldering Gym. He’s a born-and-raised Colorado native with a love for climbing. “We’re two blocks from the art museum, the Denver library, and there’s a bunch of local coffee shops around. Denver is specifically oriented toward younger professionals, so people are more willing to get out and have fun together.” Current residents live in high-rise flats and condos with luxury rooftop decks and courtyards. Civic Center Park draws thousands of visitors for its summer festivals, concerts and food truck rallies. The Colorado State Capitol is just nearby on Colfax Avenue, as well as the Denver Art Museum. Students here study within the Denver Public Schools district, which is graded an overall B on Niche.
Shop, eat and dance in downtown Denver
Leven Deli Co. is one of Denver's favorite spots for food, coffee and an after-work drink. “The customers in the area – our neighbors – are fabulous," says Celestina Salazar, director of operations at Leven, a modern deli. "Even though downtown is always bustling and known for the businesses, around here there is a small tight knit community that have welcomed us with open arms when we first opened the doors to the public." Leven also has a market and catering, with an outdoor patio for neighborhood hangouts right next to the Denver Art Museum. Cuba Cuba, spread across two twin Gothic houses, has traditional Cuban dishes and the largest selection of exotic rums in Denver. La Rumba is a dance hall which hosts club nights from Thursday to Sunday, where local DJs play salsa, merengue, reggaeton and more for beginner and advanced dancers. The closest spots for essentials or snacks are City Store Market and Circle K. For big grocery hauls, the nearest Whole Foods is 2 miles north via North Speer Boulevard. Target is just 1.4 miles north via Lincoln Street for groceries, clothing and home goods.
Proximity to the Denver Zoo and airport
Though the Golden Triangle is in the heart of Denver’s lively downtown, there are many things to do outside the neighborhood. The Denver Zoo is 3 miles east via West 14th Avenue, where families can spend the entire day exploring and learning about wild animals. For weekends away, Denver International Airport (DEN) is almost 22 miles northeast via Interstate 70 and Peña Boulevard. In case of emergencies or checkups, Saint Joseph Hospital is only 2 miles east and has a large campus with several specialty centers. The CAP Index ranks the Golden Triangle neighborhood a 9 out of 10 for high crime.
Gather at The Spot Bouldering Gym
Civic Center Park is a massive green and community event space on the northeast corner of the neighborhood. Residents can stroll through and explore the fountains and sculptures outside the Denver Art Museum nearby or attend performances at the park’s Greek Amphitheatre. Locals can stay in shape at The Spot, a climbing gym which hosted the USA Climbing National Championships in 2022. “The community that The Spot gym attracts is much more friendly than in a lot of areas that I’ve worked,” Dunn says. “Here, people really care about being around like-minded people and they want to spend time together.” The Spot offers a bar service for after-work trivia nights, live music and events. Every last Friday of the month, The Spot hosts Queer Climb, which helps bring the LGBTQ+ community in Denver together. “It’s awesome to build that community here and to be available for all people who want to do what they love, which is climbing,” Dunn says. Denver Public Library’s premier branch, the Central Library is one of the country’s largest libraries with more than 1 million visitors each year.
Civic Center Park events and festivals
Denver’s cultural center, the McNichols Civic Center Building is located within a stunning Greek Revival building, and hosts a rotating selection of workshops, lectures, musical performances and art exhibits. "The Chalk Art festival decided to move its location to the Golden Triangle area about two years ago, and we've been so lucky to be front and center of it," Salazar says. "We look forward to it every year because it is such a fun event that brings so many new faces to Leven and our staff enjoys the positive creative environment it creates when it is here for the weekend." Civic Center Park hosts the Christkindlmarket in December, with authentic German-style booths, food, crafts and vendors. It’s free and open to the public. The park is also the location of the Mile High 420 Festival, free for guests 21 and older, with a music lineup and special guests.
Luxury condos in the Golden Triangle
Contemporary urban condos and lofts in the Golden Triangle neighborhood vary from one-to-three bedrooms. Spacious rooms, balconies and patios give these residents plenty of light, and many have wood flooring and granite countertops. Locations like the Prado and Belvedere offer city and mountain views, while the Museum Residences were built alongside an expansion for the Denver Art Museum. Most condo association buildings include amenities like gated courtyards with keycard access and bike storage spaces. Dogs and cats can be allowed but may be limited by breed or size. Prices for these residences can range from $450,000 for single bedrooms to over $1 million for luxury listings with lots of square footage.
Denver Public School field trips and achievements
Students can attend kindergarten through eighth grade at Dora Moore School, which is rated a C-plus on Niche. Dora Moore School ensures that every class participates in one field trip every month to educational locations such as Denver Botanical Gardens, Denver Aquarium or Denver Center for the Performing Arts. West High School, graded a C, offers multiple internships and career pathways through CareerConnect, which helps students pursue their interests in a professional environment.
