Incorporated in 1695, The Deptford Township is a deep-rooted community named after a small town in Kent, England. The community comprises several subdivisions with established housing, but the draw is in its convenient location, affording proximity to bustling retail centers and major highways.

The Deptford Township is home to a collection of smaller suburban communities, each with its own unique history and housing stock. Community names include Jericho, Blackwood Terrace, Oak Valley and Almonesson. While a few subdivisions have homes from the 1950s through the '70s, others have houses built in the early 21st century. You'll commonly find contemporary colonials with around 2,000 square feet and at least three bedrooms. Other common styles include traditional ranch-style homes, four squares and modern townhomes. Housing prices vary, but you'll mostly find homes priced between $300,000 and $500,000. Deptford streetscapes are varied. Some streets are four-lane commuter strips lined with stores and various businesses, while community subdivisions have low-speed limits, sidewalks and mature trees.

Children in the Deptford Township have nearly a dozen schools they can attend. A common school pipeline includes schools under the Deptford Township School District, which earned an overall B from Niche. Several students attend Lake Tract School. The elementary school received an overall B-minus from Niche and has a student-to-teacher ratio of 12-to-1. Students progress to Deptford Township Middle School, which earned an overall B-minus on Niche. Students advance to Deptford Township High School to earn their diplomas. Students at DTHS can apply and enroll in an academy program that offers education in a specific concentration. A few academy programs include the Academy of Engineering and Computer Science, the Spartan School of Music and the Spartan School of Art. The school earned an overall B on Niche.

When you want to spend the day outside, Fasola Park is in the heart of the community. Kids crowd the park's sprawling playground, enjoying the monkey bars, spin wheel, music sensory play area and splash pad during the summer. Fasola Park also features a bike racetrack, where you can speed through small tunnels and scale a half ramp. Other amenities include tennis courts, a baseball field, a soccer field and a one-mile walking trail. If you want to enroll the kids in a local league, the Deptford Soccer Association is a nearby nonprofit organization that boasts various youth soccer options, including recreational leagues and travel programs.

The Deptford Township is a retail haven, affording proximity to a long list of big box stores ranging from Walmart and Target to Best Buy and Sam's Club. The major retail draw is in the Deptford Mall, Gloucester County's only indoor shopping center. Shoppers explore the 125-plus stores and restaurants, including nationally recognized favorites like Sephora, Dick's Sporting Goods, Red Robin and American Eagle. If you want to avoid the bustle of the mall, there are ample additional shopping centers like the Court at Deptford, where you'll find stores like Ulta Beauty and Barnes and Noble. For a bite to eat, restaurant options abound. Enjoy well-known favorites like Joe's Crab Shack and Longhorn, or reserve a table at Adelphia Restaurant and Bar. Adelphia's menu includes tasty items, like ahi tuna, oysters and wood-fired pizzas.

If you're looking for extra fun with friends and family, the Deptford Township features several spots for entertainment and recreation. Catch a flick at the AMC Deptford 8 movie theater or spare some time and bowl at Bowlero.

Public transportation is accessible via the New Jersey Transit System. Bus stops cover the area and can take residents across the neighborhood. If you're commuting, several major roads and highways are nearby. The New Jersey Turnpike, Interstate 295 and Highway 55 pass directly through the Deptford Township. Philadelphia is just 15 miles north, and Wilmington is 30 miles west. The Deptford Township is a highly sought-after community in a coveted location.
