Live and play in Fairmont Park
This small Des Moines neighborhood is centered around Fairmont Park, a community space with an array of unique amenities, including a hillside slide. Jarod Snover, a local real estate agent with Iowa Realty Mills Crossing, says that this general area “is the new place to go because of its proximity to downtown with affordable home prices.” A quiet, suburban neighborhood in a central location, Fairmont Park is a middle point between the Iowa State Fairgrounds and the local Hy-Vee grocery store. Despite Interstate 235’s traffic and the occasional siren from the local fire station off Easton Boulevard, residential streets are much quieter than more urban parts of the city. Families in the area can also enjoy Des Moines Public Schools, which is self-proclaimed as The District of Choice, with multiple possible paths for public education.
With both fields and trees aplenty, Fairmont Park has ample greenspace for all residents.

Single-story is Fairmont Park’s style
Residents in Fairmont Park are primarily homeowners, but rentals are available. Homes primarily bear ranch- or cottage-style architecture. Two-bedroom bungalows can start under $100,000, though more spacious properties often fall in the $100,000 to $300,000 range. Lots typically sit back from the streets, lined with sidewalks and modest front lawns with adjacent driveways. Though most locals get around by car, sidewalks allow for the option to walk around residential areas. While many streets consist solely of homes, larger streets, such as Hubbell Avenue and Euclid Avenue, generate access to various stores, services and restaurants within the neighborhood.
Fairmount Park homes have many varying styles to fit any kind of lifestyle.
Updated ranches sell for around $200,000 in Fairmont Park.
A few split-level homes can be found on the hilly streets of Fairmont Park as well.

From hillside slides to paint ball near Fairmont Park
The neighborhood’s namesake, Fairmont Park, is a popular attraction among locals. Children can play on the splash pad, known as the “sprayground” or climb the playground equipment. One of the most defining features of the park is the hillside slide and sledding area for Iowa’s snowy winters. The Fairmont Park area is also home to other distinctive recreation and entertainment options. ICU Paintball Inc., an indoor paintball facility, is available for private events and sells paintball equipment and supplies. Right next to the neighborhood is Bright Grandview Golf Course, designed and constructed in 1902, with a short course and a renovated clubhouse. Other attractions are a short commute away, such as the Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden, about 5 miles outside of the neighborhood, which has 17 acres filled with plant collections and a geodesic dome conservatory.
The star of the Fairmont Park amenities is the huge slide built into the hillside.
