Sitting in the central part of the Rio Grande Valley, Donna is a community of 17,000 residents known for its location. In the 1940s, it even used the motto 'The City with a Heart in the Heart of the Rio Grande Valley.' "Since it is centrally located, a lot of residents will commute to McAllen or Harlingen for work," says Margiee Fender, a Realtor with Medina Real Estate. The community is smaller than nearby Weslaco and McAllen; however, the community is seeing commercial growth. "There is a lot of land for industry and growth," Fender says. "Always opportunities for bigger companies to come in." The school district is the city's primary employer, with Fender noting that there are lots of teachers.
