Skyridge
Neighborhood in Durango, Colorado
La Plata County 81301
Craftsman builds from the 2000s
Most homes in Skyridge are Craftsman builds with modern mountain or Mediterranean influences. Built mostly in the early 2000s, Skyridge’s houses are much newer than the 1950s homes spread throughout the rest of Durango. Single-family homes cost between $800,000 and $3.1 million. “You’re not just paying for the view,” says Zalbowitz. “You are also paying for the new construction and the headaches it can alleviate.” The few condos in the area are priced between $900,000 and $1.1 million. Homes are more spread out than they are downtown and feature rolling backyards and rock gardens in the front yards. Paved sidewalks flank the steep mountain roads, shaded by mature pines. Houses have private driveways and multicar garages. Neighbors must purchase wildfire insurance due to the arid climate and plentiful trees. Residents are encouraged to keep yards clear of leaves and flammable material.Breakfast at Bread and shopping at Lively
Skyridge is entirely residential, but plenty of restaurants are just a short drive away on Florida Road. J. Bo Pizza & Rib Company has fresh pizza pies, plus a full barbecue menu with pulled pork, chicken and sausage. It’s a laid-back eatery with bubble hockey and ping pong tables and a wall full of TVs for watching sports. Bread is a quirky bakery and brunch spot with 1960s movie posters, mountain biking jerseys and black and white portraits on the walls. Hot and cold sandwiches are available on the bakery’s homemade bread, while soup and pastries are also on the menu. For groceries, locals head to City Market, a local chain. Residents are just a quick drive from downtown for retail shopping at boutiques like The Sparrow and Lively, which sell dresses, jewelry and boots.Close to Hillcrest Golf Club
Jenkins Ranch Park is in the heart of the neighborhood and offers a playground, tennis courts and open green space. There’s also a playground at Hillcrest View Park, just a short walk from many Skyridge homes. Nearby Hillcrest Golf Club is Durango’s only public course. It has an 18-hole course, a driving range and practice putting area. The Smith Sports Complex features 17 acres of soccer and multiuse fields that received new turf in the spring of 2024. The northern edge of the neighborhood connects to Skyline Trail, a 3.1-mile advanced pathway popular with hikers, mountain bikers and snowshoers.Easy access to Durango-La Plata Airport
There’s no public transportation in Skyridge, so a car is necessary. College Drive borders the neighborhood on the south end and provides quick access to downtown Durango, about 2 miles away. The Durango-La Plata Airport is about 20 miles away and offers daily flights to Dallas, Denver and Phoenix.Durango High School earns top grades
Kids in Skyridge attend The Durango School District 9-R, beginning at Park Elementary. Park holds a B-plus Niche rating and was named the top public elementary school in La Plata County. Next up is Escalante Middle School, which has a B rating. Durango High School has an A-minus grade and was named one of the top schools for athletes in Colorado. Durango High students can participate in school-sponsored sports like alpine skiing and mountain biking.
