Durango living with stellar views
Skyridge residents sit high above Durango, with striking views of downtown and the Animas River Valley. “It’s the highest neighborhood in what we would consider downtown Durango, and therefore, it has the most sunlight and the best views,” says Anne Zalbowitz of Keller Williams Realty, who has two decades of experience in the area. “But it’s far from secluded. A five-minute drive down College Drive and you can be at the shops downtown or the restaurants on Florida Road.” With its high elevation of nearly 7,000 feet above sea level and plentiful trees, Skyridge is one of the quietest neighborhoods in Durango, and the neighborhood has a CAP Index crime score of 2 compared to the national average of 4.

Craftsman builds from the 2000s
Most homes in Skyridge are Craftsman builds with modern mountain or Mediterranean influences. Built mostly in the early 2000s, Skyridge’s houses are much newer than the 1950s homes spread throughout the rest of Durango. Single-family homes cost between $800,000 and $3.1 million. “You’re not just paying for the view,” says Zalbowitz. “You are also paying for the new construction and the headaches it can alleviate.” The few condos in the area are priced between $900,000 and $1.1 million. Homes are more spread out than they are downtown and feature rolling backyards and rock gardens in the front yards. Paved sidewalks flank the steep mountain roads, shaded by mature pines. Houses have private driveways and multicar garages. Neighbors must purchase wildfire insurance due to the arid climate and plentiful trees. Residents are encouraged to keep yards clear of leaves and flammable material.

Breakfast at Bread and shopping at Lively
Skyridge is entirely residential, but plenty of restaurants are just a short drive away on Florida Road. J. Bo Pizza & Rib Company has fresh pizza pies, plus a full barbecue menu with pulled pork, chicken and sausage. It’s a laid-back eatery with bubble hockey and ping pong tables and a wall full of TVs for watching sports. Bread is a quirky bakery and brunch spot with 1960s movie posters, mountain biking jerseys and black and white portraits on the walls. Hot and cold sandwiches are available on the bakery’s homemade bread, while soup and pastries are also on the menu. For groceries, locals head to City Market, a local chain. Residents are just a quick drive from downtown for retail shopping at boutiques like The Sparrow and Lively, which sell dresses, jewelry and boots.
Mountain Dough Baking Co is right around the corner providing freshly made pastries and desserts
While Skyridge doesn't have much shopping there is plenty in Downtown Durango.
