Settled in 1699, Durham is an agricultural town north of New Haven, offering a tapestry of scenic beauty and historic charm. Durham's town center offers a historical feel with the town hall, public library, and a handful of shops along Main Street. The center of town has a distinctly historic feel, with a strip of land lined with several restored homes. Also known as the Main Street Historic District, this 160-acre area of land is home to a variety of historic homes, and it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.

The Field Forest offers 152 acres of woodland trails where hikers can encounter towering tulip poplars, wild turkeys, a vernal pool and streams. Local anglers can enjoy a lazy afternoon of fishing at Pistapaug Pond, while Tri-Mountain State Park offers several scenic hiking trails to explore.

This community staple has been handing out cups and cones for over 65 years and prides itself on the 35-plus flavor menu patrons can choose from. The Durham Fair
Thanks to its agricultural roots, Durham is home to Connecticut's largest agricultural fair, the Durham Fair. The fair pops up every September, bringing entertainment, attractions and cute farm animals to the Durham Fair Ground. Fairgoers can learn about plant science, pet livestock, enjoy a flight of beer and hop on the amusement park rides that roll into town along with the rest of the fair.
