Rolling hills and curving streets make up Edina's Highlands neighborhood, situated in the city's northwest quadrant. The neighborhood is made up of larger homes sitting on lots with plenty of acreage. You'll find Craftsman-style estates, large colonial-revival villas, prairie-style homes, midcentury modern homes and contemporary homes that are influenced by the farmhouse or Queen Anne style. Some homes overlook Highlands Lake, while others provide views of Interlachen Country Club's golf course. Home prices in the area range from $860,000 to $2.7 million.

Children in the area attend Highlands Elementary School, which has an overall Niche grade of A and was ranked as the number 16 best public elementary school in Minnesota. The school offers students nature-based learning, a maker's space and student leadership opportunities. Next, kids attend South View Middle School, which provides a challenging learning environment emphasizing exploratory learning and team-teaching structures. The school has a variety of activities available for students, including robotics, theater, sports and after-school programming. The school has an overall Niche grade of A and is ranked as Minnesota's number eight best public middle school. Teenagers attend Edina Senior High School, which has an A-plus overall Niche grade and is ranked as Minnesota's number four best public high school. Just east of the neighborhood is Edina Library, where children and adults alike can get lost in a bestselling novel.

There are two lakes in the community: Lake Highland and Mirror Lake. While they make for beautiful views, residents should keep a safe distance from the water as it contains blue-green algae at levels that may cause short or long-term harm. Skin irritation, gastrointestinal problems and liver damage are all possible side effects, so people and their pets should avoid contact with lake water, scum or algae. Luckily, there's much more to do in the 44-acre Highlands Park. Playing fields, tennis courts, hiking paths and an ice skating rink are all a part of the park. There's even a warming house to help you thaw those cold fingers and toes in the wintertime. There's also Fox Meadow Park, a small pocket park with a playground for kids and picnic tables. Locals meet for coffee at the nearby Caribou Coffee, a popular chain. When hunger strikes, there are plenty of eateries nearby to choose from. The Hilltop is the spot for casual brunches, while Mr. Paul's Supper Club offers cajun classics in an upscale environment. Residents grab their groceries and other household essentials from Jerry's Foods. Highway 100 is close to the neighborhood, so if residents ever need to travel or commute, it's made simple.
