Minnehaha Woods
Homes dating between the 1930s and 2010s
In Minnehaha Woods, custom construction stands next to 1930s-era brick. "Our inventory right now is pretty low," says Realtor Amy Deckas, who works with Edina Realty, adding, "We have a combination of homes from the early 1900s all the way to newer builds." Sale prices average around $1.3 million but can start in the mid-$700,000s for a three-bedroom Cape Cod built in the 1930s, when the Edina Theatre was still showing black and white movies. 2010s-era homes on the banks of the creek can easily surpass $2 million, and it's common to find two-car garages and driveway basketball hoops shaded by mature maples. Some like to decorate patios with string lights, and the sound of high school graduation parties and neighborhood cook-outs echo from backyards in the summer.Microgravity experiments at Edina High School
Neighborhood kids are districted for Edina Public Schools, where they can start off at Concord Elementary before moving on to South View Middle in sixth grade. Both earned A grades on the educational review site, Niche, and Edina High School received an A-plus. EHS, ranked among Minnesota's Top 10 high schools by U.S. News and World Reports, is home to the Students Spaceflights Experiments Program (SSEP) and teams design projects for International Space Station astronauts. In 2023, a microgravity experiment created by EHS students was launched from the Kennedy Space Center. Close to 70% of Edina High students are enrolled in Advanced Placement classes, and there are 25 to choose from, everything from Latin to Studio Art 3D.Creekside recreation, country club membership and a pirate-themed water park
Arden Park is within walking distance for many Minnhaha Residents who enjoy the wooded trails, picturesque bridges and picnic areas. Summer means fishing and tubing in Minnehaha Creek, and the sounds of hockey sticks carry from the ice rink during the winter season. Just south of Minnehaha Woods is Pamela Park, a 60-plus acre expanse that includes a woodchipped playground, turf fields for soccer practice and tennis courts. Minnehaha Creek also interests Edina Country Club. The quaffed 18-hole golf course dates back to the early 1920s, and membership grants access to an outdoor swimming pool and snack shack, tennis courts and upscale dining. The Aquatic Center at Rosland Park crowds up during the warmer months, when kids head to the pirate-themed public pool. On the Fourth of July, enjoy a fireworks display over Lake Cornelia fishing piers. According to Deckas, Edina is a city full of dog owners. There's an off-leash park to the west along Iterlachen Boulevard, and looking out the kitchen window usually means seeing a neighbor with their labrador in tow.The 50th and France Street Business District and shopping at The Galleria and Southdale Center
50th and France Street shopping is only about a mile from Minnehaha Woods. The streets are lined with brick storefronts and restaurants, and restaurants like Cocina Del Barrio and Salut Bar Americain set up outdoor tables when the weather warms. In the morning, pick up a box of cinnamon rolls at Breadsmith, and Happy Hour is from 2 to 6 p.m. at Edina Grill. Order a $5 beer and a plate of their signature "Tachos," a cheesy combination of tater tots and nachos. A few steps away, catch an arthouse movie at the historic Edina Theatre, which reopened in 2022. Finish out the day at Edina Creamery, which serves homemade ice cream in an old-school atmosphere. Shopping malls like Galleria and Southdale Center can be found 2 miles south of Minnehaha Woods, and Deckas also recommends The Hilltop on Arcadia Avenue, which she compares to the bar from "Cheers." Grocery runs are taken care of at Lunds & Byerlys or at Trader Joe's up north in St. Louis Park.Town-sponsored art fairs and farmers' markets
In early summer, the 50th and France Street Business District hosts an art fair complete with local food vendors, live bands and handmade work sold by artisans under white tents. City Hall's communications department also points to the Centennial Lakes Farmers Market, which begins in early June and runs until October, and there's also a Fourth of July Parade sponsored by the Edina Community Foundation. In December, head to Centennial Lakes Park for "Minnesota-y" Winter Ice Festival. Skaters slide onto Lake Cornelia, and there's usually a live DJ. In September, vintage and exotic cars park downtown — 50th and France Street District — for the Edina Car Show, which is sponsored by the Rotary Club. And field trips stop by the Historic Cahill School to learn more about Edina's history dating back to the 1860s.Commutes into downtown Minneapolis along Minnesota State Highway 100
According to Deckas, it's common for Minnehaha Woods residents to commute into downtown Minneapolis for work. "Traffic can be a concern, but we've had a lot of people move to home offices since the Pandemic, so it's not bad," she says. Drivers take Minnesota State Highway 100 into the city, a 10-mile trip that can take between 15 and 40 minutes, depending on traffic. METRO buses also run along France Avenue, and the Orange Line travels up Interstate 35 into the city. Downtown Saint Paul is about 20 miles — 30 minutes — from Minnehaha Woods along I-94, and the Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport is less than 20 minutes away. Residents can access medical care at M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital, a 320-plus-bed facility off France Avenue. As a whole, the crime rates in Edina are lower than the national average; Minnehaha Woods, specifically, receives a 1 out of 10 on the CAP index.
