Surrounded by parks, golf and gardens, South Cornelia is a quiet residential suburb in southeast Edina. Homes started popping up in the neighborhood in the late 1950s, with streets being laid out in a grid pattern. Paved walking trails and biking paths are scattered throughout the area, offering an active lifestyle to residents. Residents will find colonial-revival, ranch-style, Craftsman-style, traditional-detached and split-level homes along with townhouses in the Tudor-revival style. Home prices in the area range from $375,000 to $1 million.

The South Cornelia Neighborhood Association puts on several annual community events. In the wintertime, locals break out the ice skates and sleds and enjoy the snow, with the neighborhood association providing snacks in the Cornelia Warming House. There’s a sizable Iranian community in Edina, and every March, the South Cornelia Neighborhood Association throws their Chaharshanbeh Soori, an Iranian Fire Festival. There, residents share Iranian food and jump over fire to ritually cleanse themselves for the new year. The Easter Egg Hunt, Halloween Parade and Cinco de Mayo Party are also annual occurrences organized by the neighborhood association and enjoyed by the entire community.

Residents can enjoy the playground, two softball fields, a baseball field, tennis courts and a hockey rink. It’s also a popular spot for picnics and community gatherings. Also close by is Arneson Acres Park, donated to the city by Morton and Katherine Arneson in the late 1970s. Here, locals will find the Edina Historical Society, Edina Museum and the City of Edina Greenhouse. Visitors can explore the Woodland Garden, filled with woodland flowers like trillium, ferns, tout lily, bloodroot and bluebell. The Lily Garden contains lilium hybridized, maintained and registered with the Royal Horticultural Society by the North Star Lily Society. There’s a Daylily Garden with over 800 clumps of tetraploid daylilies; its rainbow display of color is at its peak in mid-July. The park’s formal gardens consist of 18 gardens filled with various perennials, daylilies and more. Additionally, visitors can explore the Hosta glade, perennial borders and the south end of the gardens, which are flanked by a semi-circle of crabapple trees.

Shopping is close at hand, with two malls just minutes away: Brandon Square Mall and the Galleria. There are plenty of restaurants for locals to dine at, including Burger Press & Schwarma Cart, the Original Pancake House and Nakamori Japanese Bistro. When residents need to grab groceries, they flock to Lunds & Byerlys.
