Sunnyslope is located 7 miles southwest of the Twin Cities, which offers residents city living with quick access to work, leisure and entertainment. “You get more of an urban experience compared to surrounding areas,” says Sally English, Realtor with Coldwell Banker Realty, who has been selling homes for seven years and has lived in the area for nearly two decades. Homes in the area include 1940s ranch-style homes ranging from $500,000 to $700,000, surrounded by tall trees and midcentury moderns ranging from $1 million to $2 million with long, winding paved driveways and large porches. “They’re very high-end homes,” says English.

Children in the area attend Concord Elementary School, which has an A from Niche and ranks in the top 25 for best public school elementary school teachers in Minnesota. “The area has great public schools,” says English. Students move on to Southview Middle School, which also has an A from Niche and ranks in the top 10 for best public middle schools in Minnesota. Kids can advance to Edina High School, which Niche ranks in the top 3 for best college-prep public high schools in Minnesota. It also has an overall grade of A-plus from Niche. The school has a performing arts center where students can explore the ins and outs of musical performance and dance.

Residents can find outdoor adventure at Edina Browndale Park while running or walking on the paved sidewalks around the park and taking in waterfront views. Get a workout in while playing basketball or tennis at Utley Park, where the neighborhood also holds an annual pumpkin patch. All things for at-home meals and weekly supplies can be found at Jerry’s Food, a supermarket that’s less than a mile from town. Red Cow 50th and France is a restaurant located nearby that specializes in veggie burgers and truffle fries. When a craving for sushi or steamed dumplings hits, walk over to AMA Sushi. “It's a ‘hole in the wall,’ but it's really good,” says English. When walking gets tedious, the Metro Transit runs from 4 a.m. to 1:30 a.m. daily. There are bus stations sprinkled all along 50th Street, which rides over 20 blocks to 76th street.

After a long workweek, get some retail therapy in at the Southdale shopping center, which has 104 stores including GAP, American Eagle and Apple. Or get a membership at Edina Country Club, where you can relax and enjoy a breakfast buffet before teeing up. Residents can take a quick drive to downtown Minneapolis, where they may visit the farmers market, walk through the sculpture garden or admire the murals. Experience a mix of urban vibes in a suburban location in Sunnyslope, just outside the Twin Cities.

GreatSchools: The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
