Elevated boardwalks overlooking Ninemile Creek connect neighbors from Heights Park (after which the neighborhood is named) to cul-de-sacs and sidewalk-lined streets that make up this southwestern suburb of Edina. “The Heights is a welcoming, multi-generational neighborhood in a great location,” says Jane Oelfke, Realtor with Edina Realty. “Elderly residents stay until they can’t, and young families never leave — Everyone fits in.” Known for its distinguished school district and small-town feel, The Heights offers residents a secluded community and proximity to State Highways 62 and 100. Local landmarks like Edina Market & Deli and Edina Coffee Roasters contribute to a community-oriented atmosphere that gives The Heights an elevated experience for residents and prospective buyers. With easy access to Highway 100, commutes into the Twin Cities are accessible within a 12-mile or 20-minute drive. The Heights is a prime example of tranquil suburban living with a thriving outdoor scene and major transportation routes on its perimeter.

Modern Craftsman and traditional ramblers
The real estate market in The Heights is highly competitive due to limited inventory, larger lot sizes and its proximity to major thoroughfares. “The housing market is very strong in The Heights,” says Oelfke, who has lived in Edina for over 38 years. “There’s never enough homes, and they usually sell over the asking price.” With a median sales price of $700,000, homes in The Heights sell at almost double the price of the average home in the Minneapolis Metro Area. It’s also worth noting that household incomes are nearly double the national average in Edina, with an economy supported by jobs in healthcare, manufacturing, finance and professional services. Most homes in The Heights were constructed in the 1960s, and boast styles common of the era, from traditional ramblers and split-levels to newly updated Craftsman designs. Single-family homes dominate the area and range in price from the high $400,000s for a 3-bedroom split-level to upwards of a million for a fully renovated modern Craftsman. Homes often feature multi-car garages, fenced-in backyards and mid-sized well landscaped lawns. Tall trees and paved driveways tie everything together to make The Heights the epitome of suburban living.

Community gathering and trail access at Heights Park
Some residents are within walking distance of Heights Park, the neighborhood’s namesake green space, which is also the primary gathering spot for neighbors. Here, parents set out lunch options at area picnic tables while children climb on the jungle-gym; and dog owners take their pets for walks along the Nine Mile Creek Regional Trail. Featuring 15 miles of paved walking paths and elevated boardwalks that pass over the Ninemile Creek marshlands, the trail eventually connects to a shopping center in the southeast part of the neighborhood. Neighbors on the western corner of The Heights have easy access to McGuire Park, which features open fields and a playground with slides and swings. Like many Minneapolis suburbs, ice skating is vital to the community. “There are about ten hockey rinks within 10 miles here,” says Tom Nevers, local Realtor with Perpich Real Estate. “The ice-skating lifestyle is a major draw for the area.” Minnesota Made Ice Center is less than 2 miles south, providing year-round tournaments and training for skaters of all skill levels.
