This part of the city has higher Mello-Roos, which is higher taxes, but residents here enjoy newer infrastructure.”

Compared to the east part of the city, South West Elk Grove has newer subdivisions and gated communities. Most properties were built from the 2000s to the present day, and homes often feature ranch-style, Mediterranean Revival and New Traditional architecture. Parks and aquatic centers in Elk Grove

The 46-acre Hal Bartholomew Sports Park anchors the area and features tennis courts; a cricket pitch; and fields for baseball, softball and soccer. Morse Park has a popular splash pad and a dog park, and people can enjoy water recreation along the Sacramento River. “There are many parks here; it's a major theme for all of Elk Grove,” Witham says. “But the city’s major aquatic center, Elk Grove Aquatics Center, is in this part of the city.”

Downtown Sacramento and Sacramento International Airport are approximately 20 miles and 30 miles north, respectively, and both can be accessed via I-5. Sacramento Regional Transit services the city’s public transit, and bus stops are along Elk Grove Boulevard. Sutter Medical Plaza Elk Grove is about 4 miles north.

Many big-box stores and retailers dot Elk Grove Boulevard and Bruceville Road, including Costco, Trader Joe’s, Kohl’s and major grocery stores such as Nugget Markets and Raley’s. “This is the new main shopping district in Elk Grove,” Witham says. “The arrival of Costco really anchored the area and led to all the subsequent retailers, restaurants and auxiliary shops. You can get almost anything you need here.” Popular restaurants include the Chinese spot Golden Dragon and Oz Korean BBQ.
