Acreage and small-town amenities in Ellisville
The quiet community of Ellisville offers primarily large lots near a small, charming downtown. It suits buyers looking for property near restaurants, grocery stores and churches who'd also like to live near multiple hospitals and a regional airport. Its well-rated school district and local community college bring families and young people to the area, especially those looking for a simple way of living. "It's just country out here," says Realtor Jacob Collins with Red Fox Realty. "Nothing's really going on on the weekends. You can grab a bite to eat downtown and go to church. We have a church on every street corner in town." Local houses of worship include West Ellisville Baptist Church, Ellisville First Assembly of God, Ellisville First Methodist and more.
Homes in town and acreage properties
Ellisville has some homes on small lots in town, but most listings are acreage properties. "One cool thing about Ellisville is you can have homes with acreage and still be five minutes from town," Collins says. Ranch-style and New Traditional homes are common. Most prices fall between $150,000 and $400,000, though some large, newly built properties exceed that. Residential streets in Ellisville usually do not have curbs or sidewalks.
A top Mississippi school district and Jones College

City parks and a 24-hour gym
Ellisville City Park is a playground beside the Ellisville Public Library. Merchant's Park has baseball and softball fields and tennis courts. Sports & Fitness at The Ell is a 24-hour gym that offers group workout sessions, personal training and youth fitness. The facility includes batting cages, a sauna, tanning rooms and even offers meal prep that can be picked up at the gym.
Local restaurants, fast food and groceries
Charlie's Catfish House is a local seafood restaurant with Southern sides like coleslaw and hush puppies. Casadores Mexican Grill is a family-owned Mexican restaurant. Karock's is a local chicken shop that operates a snow-cone stand next door. For a sweet treat downtown, Collins recommends Bennie & Mae's Ice Cream Shop. "It's just a cool little downtown area to bring the kids and hang out on a Saturday afternoon," he says. Chain restaurants in town include McDonald's, Sonic Drive-In and Ward's. Groceries are available at Corner Market, Greer's CashSaver and Lake Serene Grocery.
Medical resources and Hattiesburg-Laurel Regional Airport
Interstate 59 runs through Ellisville, connecting it to nearby communities like Laurel and Hattiesburg. "For older people who are concerned about being far away from a hospital, we have nice hospitals in Laurel and Hattiesburg," Collins says. Laurel's South Central Regional Medical Center is about 7 miles away, and Hattiesburg's Forrest General Hospital and Merit Health Wesley are about 25 miles away. About 14 miles away, Hattiesburg-Laurel Regional Airport offers nonstop flights to Houston.
